Hello, my name is Alex Cooper and I am a startup indie game developer looking to help fans of the genre have fun. The game was prototyped in 2006.

If you would take the time to please review my game and share it with your friends perhaps even comment on things that you would want it in or that could be improved I would be extremely thankful.

Orignally based off Dwarf Fortress

Game Homepage on Byond website

I also have a couple videos of gameplay they are not official trailers for the game and they are not upto date but it should give you a good idea of the style of gameplay and hopefully get you interested so I can eventually get it on steam greenlight as well...

FAQ
How do I select my units? Click and drag over them with your mouse and let go.
How do I speak? Press the say button on the left hand side of the HUD Interface.
How do I move my units? Select them and click somewhere for them to move.
Why can't I used the hotkeys? You can.. if you're in the web browser go down to the bottom right of the screen in the client and click chat the alt then chat then you can press S to speak.
Can we be friends? Sure.

How to play in webclient - First click the webclient link at the beginning of this post

Once the game loads up because of the client being html5 some interface elements will not load..
You will need to press commands tab and goto worldsay2 to speak and restart to choose a race.. some things will appear black hard to see ect due to the webclient being in early beta..downloading the windows client will give you a much better visual experience.. ask any of the players for help they do not bite.

Well I figured being in off topic as others post about other games and this being an indie games forums and my game being free it would be ok i'm just looking to get more people interested i'm sorry if it is causing trouble...

I develop solo and its provided completely for free as in free speech no subs i don't even take donations
Similar to the way dwarf fortress is it is free and always will be free to play without paid incentives

The main reason I picked these forums is because of the type of community you have here, you guys are amazing, from what I have seen most people here can see past graphics and admire a game for its gameplay...

Message Tynan and link him your thread, stake your claim etc. I won't delete your thread but I'm not 100 percent sure Tynan would be okay with you joining us solely for free advertising. Have you even played RimWorld?

Yeah all the time, I love it he has made a pretty amazing game.
I had actually joined so I could download one of the mods which required an account to access the attachment.

I have sent him a message

Thanks.

I leave it up to him on what happens in this case, you're the first person I'm aware of to push their own product.

It's off-topic, so you can definitely talk about your game.

I also do it on the DF forums :)

Gotta be honest, it's not my cup of tea.

I like games with better UI. that let me reach the options faster. But I am not part of your core audience.

But i'm amazed by anyone developing a game. Hope you find yourself in there and keep working strong!

milon

No sound on the youtube vids?  :(

I'd love it if there was talking or something, even if the game doesn't have sound/music.

Looks interesting, but for me it's distracting when UI elements aren't consistent.  (For example, you designed your entire layout from scratch, but there's Windows Message Box elements, instead of game-themed messages.)  But hey, it's a work in progress, and those links are from 7 months ago.

Zombra

Is there, like, a website about the game that says what it is or anything?  That link just goes straight to a download.  "Download this, it's a game" doesn't really get my blood pumping.

Also be aware that the name Dungeon Master has already been used for a video game.  Might want to think about something more original.

Listen1

Yeah, I stumbled at a UI topic on gamedev's reddit, and there are many suggestions in here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/2chrbw/how_do_you_handle_the_ui_in_your_game/

UI is key in a game like yours. If I might suggest, try making sketches on paper to find what you feel is right, then show it to people and get destroyed, then sketch again, until you find what's necessary.

Then translate your paper to the game. Since you made the atual UI, you should be able to improve it. Hope it helps.

godsring

Thank you so much for the feedback!

Yes the interface in some areas is very outdated and you can see where I have started work on a new UI

Dungeon Master has been in the works since 04-05~ and has undergone many massive changes

I will be sure to make an offical trailer that is much easier to see as well as hear the in-game music and sound effects!

We are currently working on a new website for the game development blog which will be much more modern than our previous website.

Thanks again for your comments and suggestions, it's all very helpful.

I also recommend plain old screenshots.  Some of us don't really "do" videos.

milon

That's true. In fact, I often skip video in favor of screenshots.
