One day I decided to start a new Rimworld base. So I did and after some time my colony grew and I had captured a Hunter named Mushinto. It took at least 1 maybe 2 in-game months to recruit him. I check his stats and notice he's a 16 in shooting. So, I immediately have him equip a survival rifle (Which was the best I had at the time). That very same day he was recruited, a raid came. At this point i'm in a bad situation and can only have 2 colonists face the raiders. One of those colonists is downed and the last one is Mushinto. I was for sure he'd head shot each of the raiders like it was shooting fish in a barrel. But after about 10 shots i began to notice something was wrong and mushinto wasn't hitting any of them. After an in-game HOUR no one had hit each other. I was thinking it was his location so i moved Mushinto about 5 units from a raider and still niether of them could hit eachother. It was about 5 minutes later FINALLY a bullet hits and........... Mushinto is killed by a raider that has a level 2 in shooting and Mushinto has a 16. My hopes and dreams for that colony ended when Mushinto died :(

Mushinto is a traitor. :-)

Joke aside, I have found that shooting skill is not the major factor in deciding shooting accuracy. Pawn's traits and health conditions have a much greater effect (example 1, 2). Even a scratch on the arm or the eye will reduce accuracy considerably. The next major factor is the light level. Being in the dark during defense, and making sure the enemy is in the light, is like my top priority for all my colonies these days - it makes so much difference. The next major factor is the weather, and so on... Here is an example (not to be taken too literally, example 3). I make sure to have some "cover" boulders in the garden for assailants to cling onto. Hope this will give you some ideas for your next adventure.

Example 2: http://i.imgur.com/lwrySYd.png
Toni is a much better shooter, but she has a burn scar on her left eye.

Defenders are in darkness, while the rest of the yard varies between 100% at day and 50-60% at night.

EDIT: Toni is a she. :-)

Also the trait trigger-happy makes colonists fire faster, but much less accurately.

Is there a way to calculate/check accuracy for characters? That way it is easier to decide what weapons to give to what person. If someone can be 100% accurate with a minigun I would rather give it to him then to someone with 10% accuracy.

For example, what is that mod I see in the screenshots?

There are probably a couple. I use Numbers: https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=16558.0
The shooting accuracy, is that the base skill, or with the weapon equipped? Because in the example I see someone with - shooting skill, having an accuracy of 96,4% ?

I'm pretty sure it just displays pawn's accuracy, without considering weapon's stats.

Mushinto

Just wanted to say, Mushinto is the character I came up with and it's awesome to read stories about him! Even though this is an old post... lol
