Note that this idea just formed in my head, and feel free to criticize fairly.

So your probably wondering what Personal events are, the basic idea is that wile a settler is doing something such as shooting there is a chance that an event will happen to that settler. For example say that a settler is shooting a raider but an event fires and it's that his/or her gun jams so now he/she has to wait 5 or so seconds to unjam it. How the player would know that a personal event just happen is that a few words would appear above the settler, and you could find more info in there character screen such as the effects. These personal events would have some effect on game play, enough that it would be noticed but it would be mainly for story.

I like it

The gun jamming should happen to raiders as-well.

and, once added, bows and arrows should never "jam" (nor should other throwables)
So dwarf fortress in space eh?
I love it.
I love it so much.
Please keep it that way.

Good idea, personal events should effect raiders to.
I forgot to add this in my last post but traits and skills will effect the chances of a event firing. For example say one event was if you ate raw food you could get food poisoning, but if say a settler had more then 8 research then you would probably be smart enough not to eat rotten food.

-Manny has adopted a pet boom rat.
-Manny has overfed her pet boom rat
-Many's pet boom rat has exploded.

Explosives can easily blow up prematurely. That'll teach those raiders to grenade spam me.

So sort of like personal events based off of stuff like their perks or statistics?

You try and get someone like your scientists to go build something but that something has a chance of collapsing or explodes because their construction isn't past a certain level, Or perhaps you've just let that silly miner poison all your food because he hasn't touched a potato in his life.

It turns out the kleptomaniac miner with a history of murder has just stolen a powerful firearm and gone on a murderous rampage! Maybe it wasn't wise to let that one guy anywhere near the prisoners and now you've got a riot on your hands?

Colonist is throwing grenades at raiders while standing next to all the auto-turrets.

Has enyone heard of "duds"? Sometimes (in very rare cases) the detonator in the fuse may be damaged, a crappy chinese version or simply completely missing. Grenades tend to be stored with the parts (explosive charge, fuse and the lever, pin & firing pin-combo) separately. I´d not be surprised if someone forgot to insert the fuse before screwing the explosive and lever together...
Oh, yes... Molotovs can´t be duds, but they may detonate in the air... rarely.
