I am also seeing the in a heavily modded game, and do not know which of the mos is the cause, but suspect it might involve the cavefauna(mushrooms) mod

No, cavevafauna is good, I have this mod and I can't play, but as I told here https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=20529.0 I can't save games, but I check it, and reply another one comment.

Combat realism is really screwing up based on thise logs. Is it correct in the load order? You havent tried to add it to an existing game? Does a new game work?

Try to disable caveworld flora, in my game it was problematic. If game will crash delete it from folder /mods
