Do we know if we'll get steam keys for Rimworld?

"Will I get a Steam key?
– It depends when you bought the game. If you bought the game on or before November 4, 2014 you will get a key when the game is released on Steam. If you bought the game after that, we will try to get you a Steam key but Valve's policies prevent us from being able to guarantee this."

Ok, so here's the thing.
Valve allows developers to give away as many keys as they want for games that are on steam.
Valve doesn't allow developers to sell steam keys for games that are not (yet) on steam.

If Tynan were to guarantee steam keys, that would be selling keys, and he'd get in trouble with Valve (he's already had a call from them about just this). But he can give keys to everyone he wants when the game is on steam.

So... draw your own conclusion from that!

So peppsen helpfully posted Tynan's actual post on this in a different topic, I'll crosspost it here.

Valve's rule isn't against giving keys to people after the game is out. It is against selling keys before the game is available on Steam.

I am also able to generate all the keys I like. But, as I've been specifically told by Valve, I'm not allowed to sell those keys right now. That's why I don't promise keys.

So, to summarize. Later, I'll be allowed to give keys to everyone. But now, I'm just not allowed to sell those keys, until the Steam release. Note the subtle but important difference.

I can't be the only person here who thinks the single best thing about the upcoming Steam release will be an end to all these bloody threads asking about the Steam release and Steam keys.

It's a bit strange as many developers/games promise Steam keys far in advance and seem to be fine. Most games on Kickstater say you'll get a Steam key later on and games like Factorio said they would be included, even though it would be a long time before they actually got on Steam. I wonder why they were allowed to do it but Rimworld wasn't.
