Released Prisoners Still Count as Imprisoned

I have had a couple incidents in the latest patch in which released prisoners were downed due to heat stroke or animal attacks while leaving the map. In these situations it seems the game still treats them as if they are in my prison as there is no option to rescue or arrest them and my wardens will still carry meals to them regardless of how far away they are. They can't be treated since they aren't in a prisoner bed and sleeping spot and the only interaction I have open is to strip them. There appears to be no viable option for dealing with this other than execution or going out of my way to build a prison around them.

I experienced this bug in my current game. I'd released a prisoner (who remained in restraints), who then got attacked by a cobra. The prisoner then tried to return for food, but fell over. I had no interaction options except strip (though my warden continued to bring food periodically). I even built a new little prison room around the prisoner, but nothing helped. The prisoner eventually died.

i have this problem too, finally i euthanized him

I want to add to this: when a prisoner is released, they walk extremely slowed and are still in restraints.  I know that's WAD, but it seems very strange that a released prisoner is still restrained.  I would expect that releasing a prisoner also removes the restraints.

I never realized it, but you're surely right.

I've also noticed some strange differences in behavior with releasing a prisoner. Sometimes, they take the prisoner out to the edge of the community (Home Zone? Didn't ever check for sure) and other times they take them right outside the door and release them. Mostly I've observed this behavior in A13. I couldn't say off the top of my head if the different behaviors have persisted in A14.

I got a similar issue and im pretty sure it is related to this.

It started with releasing a colonist in an area that was then closed off (busted door was replaced and sealed the prisoner in a room, dont know if the room was sealed before or after the warden let go of him, all I know is the warden was in the process of releasing him).
After that, I couldnt release the prisoner again, the option just wouldnt pop up. I tried to have him arrested to get him back in his prison cell, he got downed but I still couldnt interact with him. Managed to  get him to bed by scheduling an operation and then take him to bed.

I got a link to my savegame, where that prisoner should be taken to another operation, but the doctor cant take him and starts one job after another, console pops up shortly after loading the savegame, maybe that can help you in some way.

Too big for attachments, heres the link to my dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b547mlrwrcjn6zh/Twats%20at%20the%20Hill.zip?dl=0

I couldnt find the worldfile though, arent those needed anymore?

I tried something and it worked, it seems the prisoner is still in the state of leaving despite being downed and back in his prison cell. I cleared a path to the map edge and let him flee, got the +15 relationship bonus.

What happens here is that the only thing you can do to a prisoner set to release that left a  prison cell is to change the "release" in the prisoner's menu. Otherwise he is considered as leaving the map and no interaction is possible (still counts as your prisoner though until in the map, but a prisoner set to release does not get cure or food even in his cell).
If you change the state in something else he will be escorted to cell, feeded, treated etc. (EDIT AFTER TEST: he get food but not taken to cell or treated on the place)
Not a bug, it is this way since many alphas.

On the release place: they take the prisoners out of the base limit, if your base is enclosed by walls and doors he will be escorted to de nearest door that leads outside, if the base has not a perimeter wall (because the perimeter does not totally close, like many killboxes or similar solutions that involve a free path to the base) he will be released out of the enclosing he actually is (his cell or the main door etc..) to the first square that is not enclosed.
And as always.. sorry for my bad english

I agree ...
I understand that letting them count as prisoners till exiting the map is done, in order to prevent exploiting this by being able to kill prisoners without penalty ...
but they should either get their shackles removed upon release, or be escorted to the maps edge by the warden

Bug confirmed. I have listed it on Mantis here: https://ludeon.com/mantis/view.php?id=2567 Thank-you for reporting this.

I deeply tested this (A14.1249), what i saw:
prisoner set to release (already released and out of his cell) then downed
- If set for friendly chat, he gets food but does not get retaken to cell. No action allowed except "strip". (I'm pretty shure I saw them taken back in cell in previous alphas, sorry for wrong statement in this tread)
- If set for an operation, he get the operation.
And as always.. sorry for my bad english

I can confirm this. Save attached ("Iko" is the prisoner in question, probably obviously). Specifically, he was a leg down, I gave him a peg leg, he was released but then attacked by a maneater muffalo and lost the peg leg, I patched him back up, but he is never released.
