Besides the Faction screen, visits and raids, we don't see much of our neighbours.

Factional warfare changes factions in drastic ways.

---------------------------------- Battles

During Battles, two warring factions, say a Tribe and a Raider Gang, fight each other on your land. During this event, you can lend a helping hand to either side. If one is your ally and the other is your enemy, and you help your enemy, you will become allies with them and enemies with your former allies. After helping in a battle event, you will be given random resources like medicine, steel, wood etc. You will be given better rewards with a better relationship with either faction.

---------------------------------- Factions

Factions collapse and new ones rise, each with their own ideals and views of your colony. When a faction collapses, some Refugees of that faction will seek shelter in your colony. Sometimes, they will ask to stay. Other times, they will leave to make their own future.

Sometimes a new or weak faction will contact your colony asking for supplies. If you choose to supply them, they will sometimes give you items in return, depending on factional relationship.

---------------------------------- War Convoys & Ambushes

During a factional war, a War Convoy may pass by your colony or stop there. Convoys are heavily armoured carrying powerful weapons, willing to sell some of their loot or buy some of your weapons. Ambushes, hosted by enemies of one faction's war convoy, are small, heavily armoured groups aspiring to rob them. You can intervene and help one side and you may be rewarded.

---------------------------------- Dual Raid

Factions allied with others may sometimes come together to perform a Dual Raid against the colony. Two raids mixed together. Powerful weapons and armour of a raider gang mixed with the numbers, clubs and bows of a tribe.

---------------------------------- War on The Player

When in a war, the player will experience more frequent raids and new raid types. These new raid types are:

Heavy Siege - A special type of siege where a hostile faction builds a standard siege base. The base is well protected with walls, sandbags, IEDs and deadfall traps. The base would have two - five mortars both incendiary and explosive. The siege group would be bigger than others with 15 members. Raiders not operating the mortars would attempt small raids against the colony. Once the mortars are out of ammo, the raiders will launch an attack against the colony.

Trappers - Skilled raiders set traps surrounding the colony and will build a small camp outside, waiting for colonists to leave. The camp includes outside sleeping spots, a kitchen and a freezer. The trappers will hunt animals and create small growing areas nearby. They may also build sandbags and turrets protecting the camp.

Infiltration - Raiders disguised as a friendly faction come to the colony to "trade". When interacted with, the raiders will equip their weapons and begin attacking everything in the colony. A way to avoid infiltrators is to build a Checkpoint, which is manually operated by a colonist. When entering a checkpoint, visitors will surrender their weapons and they will be stored in the checkpoint. The downside of a checkpoint is if your "visitors" are actually raiders, the checkpoint operator takes a face-full of lead.

This sounds like a great idea, but i think there would have to be some kind of way that a war could be declared on you. It seems kinda silly that all these battles and wars would happen on your land and your colony has the option of staying out of all of it.

Sound like a great Idea.

And I hope not to derail this thread ...
But who else just heard Ron Perlman talking inside your head about how War never changes ?
Maxim 1   : Pillage, then burn
Maxim 37 : There is no overkill. There is only open fire and reload.
Rule 34 of Rimworld :There is a mod for that.
