death of children

I thought it was illegal to portray the death of a child in a video game (in America, at least).  Rim World colonists that are <18 show that secondary age thingy that's greater than 18 so it's sort of a loophole for the current system.  Sort of hard to present the idea a newborn is 19 years old in planet XYZ years though.

(I'm not 100% on this.  Anybody else wanna verify?)

I can verify that this is not correct.

Well, AFAIK film and game producers often voluntarily avoid killing children in games/movies because they think it would create bad PR (and maybe a higher MPAA rating)

In many European countries you're considered an adult if you're 18+. Yes, this includes beer.

Which is why OP mentions colonists that are younger than 18, I guess ;)
(not that it would matter, as Pax_Empyrean already answered OPs question (i.e. that death of children in videogames isn't forbidden))

Don't think so, fallout 1 and 2 are available for sale, and you can kill children in them...Or just kick them in the nuts so the little shits quit stealing from you..
Why to people worry about following their heart? Its lodged in your chest, you won't accidentally leave it behind.

Its bad because reasons, and if you don't know the reasons, you are horrible. You cannot ask what the reasons are or else you doubt it. But the reasons are irrefutable. Logic.

Uh, no, it is not illegal. There are plenty of novels, movies, television shows, and videogames that portray the deaths of teenagers and children as a narrative element. Making it illegal would be a violation of the First Amendment as it would be abridging free speech. I don't know why you would think it's illegal. The only thing that stops videogames from including graphic depictions of violence against minors is the ESRB and the policies that videogame retailers impose.

Depicting the graphic death of children is generally a straight ticket to an Adults Only rating from the ESRB. Most major retailers like Gamestop do not carry AO videogames which means that, in the mainstream market, any game that gets an AO rating usually censors itself. Examples are Manhunt 2, a game where filters and camera angles were used to tone down the vividly depicted murders. As a digitally distributed PC game Rimworld is outside the purview of this system, and any depiction of violence against children or teenagers within the game can hardly be labeled as graphic.

TastyMints has summarized this situation perfectly. It is not at all illegal, but manufacturers generally choose not to do it, for marketing reasons.

It's not illegal, but most people who make media (from writing, to movies, to games) find the death children in poor taste. More of a taboo thing.

Ok yeah good stuff.  I originally thought so because I don't think I've (ever?) seen child death in video games, and more so it seems big time game devs tend to dance around it (i'm thinking of the fallout series where you can blast a kid right in the face with a minigun but it just knocks him down for a minute or two.)

Welll shit.  If there's nothing stopping Big T, lets get some child-rearin' up in this game!  It's not hard enough without a few more deadbeats hanging around!
