Photoshop works fine, I haven't had any issues with it. Others use different programs, but as long as the picture used in the mod is a PNG it will work. You will need to code a bit to get it to work. And most are open for texture changes atm. If by texture pack you mean new terrains, that's one thing I'm uncertain we can retexture yet.
If you havent's seen them:
http://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=2397.0 Here's where we discussed how to replicate the art.
My post is a list for reference, but it gives a general idea what every item should be like. Tynan gave a good summary.
http://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=2325.0 Download the core art file.

You're welcome, I was going crazy making textures that didn't fit.
If you're willing to learn..
In your Rimworld/mods folder there should be a folder called RoyalBed. Its a good sample mod. Shows how to organize them, and how much needs edited to get a new item to work.
The Core folder contains the XML files for most of the game.
I learned most about how the coding works by just reading the files. This game is actually super simple to mod. It can take me several hours for a texture, then a couple minutes to finish the code. Copy and paste helps alot.

Last two posts are pretty cute, like the assets there.

The semi-random stack of boxes doesn't really need the shadow though, since the game does so much of the lighting itself.

Edit; actually, unless someone plans to make use of this stuff, I'll go ahead and put it all in-game, if that's alright, Mrofa, Alyx?

I think it's really nice that you're thinking of the colorblind :)

Thanks, I don't want to have people left out of the fun. I try to make sure everything I do for games is somehow readable by the colourblind. :)
