I bought an awful silver mace for 560 silver.
I smelted it for 750.

I don't know how this works, but I'd like to know more.
As in: what awful items are worth buying?

Thx for this notification

market valua depends on the quality: http://rimworldwiki.com/wiki/Quality

at the least quality, its less worth than its materials.

Wex

Are we talking about sculptures too? I mean, an awful gold small sculpture, still costs a lot.

Well with 70 ingredients x 20 it would be made from 1400 gold.
I don't know how much smelting returns and if sculptures can be smelted.
But with a base market value of 15 silver we would be talkting about 21000 Bucks of Materials used.

You can't smelt art, only weapons, armor and slag chunks.

SpaceDorf

So don't buy crappy art :)

True since forever.

You can dismantle though, for the same result.

Cool, that leaves the question at which quality level it is viable to sell weapons because they are more worth than the resources used :)

spears -> 90 ingredients -> x20 silver = 1800 silver

when u smelt u get 1/4 -> 1800 /4 -> 450 silver :C

SpaceDorf

Thanks, I am just researching smithing, so I could not check ingame for myself.

I bought a silver knife for 285 and got 400;
I vought a longsword for 1067 and got 1200;
I bought a silver mace for 560 and got 750.
You get 3/4 of the material.
I have a 16 social colonist doing the buying.

That's true. Although I have never tried dismantling a bought statue, I imagine it works the same way as the ones your pawns make. And unless I'm mistaken you get a good amount of materials back from dismantling, something like 3/4.
