Anyone interested in doing a ''sucession'' game ? I used to do this with people when I was playing Dwarf Fortress. Basically you take control of a game on a ''hot seat'' format, where each player plays the same game for a pre-determined length of time and then passes it on to the next player in line and so on. Each players records the major events during his ''turn'' and posts it up for other to see. It created some epic stories in dwarf fortress like the infamous http://lparchive.org/Dwarf-Fortress-Boatmurdered/

If you are interested, drop me a line here. Cheers !

EDIT:

Starting scenario : Crashlanded (Standard Classic 3 Colonist), Random Starting location.
Story Teller: Phoebe Chillax at Challenge difficulty level

Simple Rules: One season per player, no reloads. Max 2 days on the game then send it to the other dude (no way to enforce it guys but it will be more fun like that) Document your reign as Overseer and post your
Game story and saves here on the Github Page set-up by Jaxxa (Thanks mate):

ALLRIGHT so far we got:

Overseers:

Myself (s22190) (1st Done) (Spring 5500-1) - Main Pawn: Zot Thaler, Mute Lesbian Colonist
Baloun (1st Done ) (Summer 5500) - Main Pawn: Sabuto Hood, Neurotic Janitor
PotatoeTater (1st Done) (Fall 5500) - Main Pawn : Baker, Cardiac Drifter
Milon (1st Done) (Winter 5500) - Main Pawn: Jono, Neurotic Construction Enginner
Jaxxa (1st Done) (Spring 5501) - Main Pawn: Lucerio.
Mr Cross (1st I/P (Summer 5501) - Main Pawn ?

(if more folks want to join after Jaxxa I'm cool with that. If not we'll do a roving rooster like that)

'Ello there friend,

there were some trials but they weren't very succesfull. Homewer I am always up for a succession games! So... Count me in and let's start ASAP. Other people might join soon. I would homewer recommend to switch leadership on a season-basis. Year is quite long in Rimworld!

Also, what mods should we use? I would say only some graphical or overall smaller mods.

Edit: I'd also suggest you to read Gemclod LP of DF - it was great!
Edit 2: I would also start with random position - could be more *fun*!

Skaliri

I would not mind joining in either (although I am a complete scrub) But I think you need to define the exact colony a bit.

I assume no mods (or at least, nothing non-UI changing?), the normal 3 colonist start.
Other things like difficulty, are they set or free to be changed per person?
How long does someone have to play before the next person gets the save?
et cetera, et cetera...
I really would like to try it, but for me too much is unclear right now to see if it would actually be any good / viable and fun

PotatoeTater

I think somewhere back in the stories section of the forums there was a successful run of one. Either way, I would be down to play, these kind of playthroughs make for some great stories.

Yeah, we had a couple that went fairly well.  I'm always interested in a succession game.

Color me interested!  :)

So shall we start a organization thread? Set up rules? :)

PotatoeTater

I think that would be a good idea, get a google spreadsheet setup and invite everyone interested. We could decided on rules, timeframe you get to play, and then collect everyone's writings on what happened during their time in charge. We would have a very nice journal in the end I believe.

Completely agreed. Dont know if we have to have google spreadsheet (wouldn't a topic here be enough?)... But yup. If you think spreadsheet is necessary - then why not.

Topic here is good to get people that are interested, the spreadsheet is just so we can keep who's turn/who was through what point organized. If we could get a spreadsheet inside the forums we would do that here then.

How about a simple organization thread? I think I will start it tomorrow with s22190 being the first "overseer".... And let's work from there!

s22190

Updated the top page.

Will start a new game tonight or tomorrow. This will be fun guys  :)

Have Not done one of these before. Sounds Interesting, I am in.

One thing we could try is setting up a GitHub page. We could have the save files in the Repository that would be pulled down, played with and pushed back up. The Wiki or text documents in the Repository could be used to record Stories. And at the end we have a snapshot of each save when it was changed over if we wanted screenshots over time.

If you want I should be able to set one up that would be private to only the people involved.

Yes ! That would actually be awesome if you could set it up! I'll add you to the rooster.

Cool, I have set up an initial GitHub here: https://github.com/jaxxa/RimworldSuccessionGame_2016-08
It is mostly empty except for me copying over some of the information from this thread.

Do we want it public so others can watch as it unfolds, or restricted to just people involved and we can post a public story at the end?
I have not really set up a collaborative Github before so it may take a while to get it all working perfectly.

If people have trouble with GitHub we can just send the save to me and I can update it.

I am thinking that having a folder for Stories, with sub folders for each of the Season (Where you can also include screenshots), and another folder for the actual saves. This saves folder could have named saved for the switch over at each season, or it could just have the latest one and we could use the Github history if we want to look back to a previous seasons.
