Hives/Insect Meat

Seems to me like hives don't provide much reward for the levels of ass pain caused.  Does anything eat insect meat without a mood debuff besides ascetics ? That crap keeps sneaking its way in to my cook's workflow and before i know it i have stacks of -3 mood debuffs for everyone. Ok well that's on me for screwing up the supply chain, but the rewards for dealing with hauling the abundance of worthless corpses just to get a couple of meals worth of jelly ... makes me feel like I'm missing something here.  I know hives got nerfed but they seem like a lot of effort for very little.

Considering the benefits of living in a cave colony, yes it's worth the effort. Also you can just change the settings on your bills to not allow insect or human meat in the creation of meals. They're great for making kibble tho because the animals don't care what they're eating. So I just setup 2 bills for kibble at the butcher's table, the first one makes kibble from human and insect meat and the 2nd makes kibble with all other meats. Make them both 'do till you have X' of the same amount and put the human/insect meat bill higher in the list so that the other bill only gets used if there's no human/insect meat around.

The best part about this is that insect meat tastes like seafood in real life.
And a good cook will remove disgusting bits before cooking.

Bet you never tasted insects FROM SPACE ;D

Also, what lorebot said is a very good way to set up any multi-ingredient bill or prioritize ingredients in bills in general. As for insect meat, kibble or just pure as warg feed is a good way to use it, sometimes I feed it to my prisoners as nutrient paste ^^

Yup, also if you have a hive in a secure location you can farm insect meat and gelee.

Which makes the bugs even better animal food.

Also Bears outclass Wargs by far ;)

Unless I have a very large supply of meat, I use insect meat to feed prisoners. (as nutrient paste, so cooks don't have to waste time on it) If I run out of regular meat, then I'll start incorporating insect in fine meals, as the fine meal thought more than nullifies the cooked insect meat one.
