Let insects capture colonists

I kept agressive predatory insects and arachnids through most of my life and I can say that many of them, especially social ones, prefer to capture live prey. There are two general approaches for hunting insects:
1. Kill and eat before someone will try to snatch your food from you.
2. Capture all you can, eat until full now and conserve excesses for later in a web, hive, lair, burrow etc.

IMO insects should not instantly kill all colonists they can, but instead they must strive to incapitate, capture and bring them near their hives. put them into some Alien-like suspending structure or simply let them lie down paralized\dazed state.

This will be a step away from hives and infestations being a simple instakill for colonists and will force players to mount an offensive on the hive to save their captured colonists.

To add time pressure on the colony:
1. Munching.
Gradually, insects will bite a bit from captured colonists. Arm, leg, eye etc until he is dead.
2. Alien infestation
Classic chestbuster hatchery. Colonist is being used as a hatchery and must be saved and then operated to extract insect larvae.
3. Brood
Colonists are placed in suspended state and wait until a brood of insects will hatch. If not saved in time brood of small insects will appear devour them.
4. Drones
Upon capture colonists are injected with parasite\venom which makes them a slave, tending the hive. They can be either docile or agressive when protecting the hive. Curing is either operation or waiting until subjugating venom will wear off.

This. Is. Brilliant.
It would make infestations so much more interesting!

I guess Ridley Scott could have grounds for suing Tynan...

No. Copyright doesn't work like that.

Not to mention that Ridley stole his ideas from the Tarantula Wasp.

There's  LOT of insects that conserve their food, mostly solitary arachnids and insects devour it right away but those related to social structure or hives often evolved enough to make a food storage for themselves.

Gimme gimme gimme. I want this so bad ☺

Insect Jelly must come from something ☺

It'd be nice if insects sort of had a build up. Like only the little ones spawned in the beginning and they were like cockroaches and went after your food. They'd also be somewhat beneficial because they'd clean the floors of every room they went in. However, if you didn't deal with them, warriors would spawn and try to kill you. Maybe with research, you could arrest the development of the hive and keep the helpful cockroaches around.

This would be really cool if it gets added

time to sacrifice downed raiders to the insect gods!

Blood for the worm God!

No more need for graves and crematorium! ^^

This would be nice, although maybe would require insect hives toned down in frequency (not sure how common they currently are)
In the end, we all make the same leather hats.

I doubt any interaction with insects could be fit until Tynan will implement ethos or something like that which will allow changes in how moods are affected and sacrificing people could be seen as ok in the community.
Yet changing insects and hives from instakilling events to delayed killers and pressure-makers alone could add to the immersion.

I don't think there is a way not to like this suggestion.

Talk about mood breaks and berserking finding its full justification if colonists get to watch one of theirs being dragged away.
