Why don't we just put all the answers in a sticky in this forum? It's for bot detection but no bot is smart enough to link the 2 together.

nooo, that 'd be too easy  ;D

Then I guess we have to wait until Quebec passes laws about making adhering to WCAG guidelines mandatory, and here's why:
Disabled people won't be able to answer the question about what's on top of the page, since the image doesn't have the same alt text as the text in the image, so when they view this page with a screen reader they keep on entering 'ludeon forums' making you effectively restrict visually impaired people from posting on these forums :).

Nope. Ask a friend via any means of communication You have : "Hi, what's on top of this page, they have some stupid security questions...", and remember for later.
On the other hand just changing the Alt-text should be easy enough.

Scalare

Sure, put your phone number here, perhaps you'll gain some friends :)

1) Ask a friend via any means of communication You have (...)
2) i'd recommend the real-life friends but whatever makes Your day.

Either way we're getting off-topic.
I agree that verification-questions when creating first ~5post can be a little nuisance but i strongly oppose that they

or non-english speakers.
No they do not.
Non-english speakers have google translate and google search.
visually impaired people either have more or less complex software (which You mentioned) that helps them or family/friends/colleagues/people who support them to provide help when it's needed.
I don't know if there is still need for this verification questions (probbably yes), or wether some other system can be implemented (or why not).
But I'd like to ask wether You base that opinion on Your experience (if yes, how did You bypassed this effective restriction - since it might help to develop some solution that would not compromise whole idea of verification questions) or Your friends.

I wasn't talking about what I think is restricting visually impaired people, I was talking about what the WCAG guidelines say about when visually impaired people are being restricted.

to be honest (and without wanting to be mean!): I can't imagine visually impaired people will be playing this game. I'm pretty sure that will not be fun. and fun is the reason why you play games.

if I'd be visually impaired more than I am (I'm wearing glasses. THICK glasses. see my profile pic) and unable to read text on the screen, then I'd rely on pen-and-paper RPG. reminds me of doing that again in the near future ... I'm missing my DnD party.

The Man with No Name

I had the "You cool a room with an air _ _ _ _ _ _ _ " verification question. A previous question had had an answer that matched the number of underscores, so I thought that this would be a seven-letter word. Anyway, these were the responses I tried, none of which appeared to be the correct response: coolant, cooler, conditioner.

So I still don't know what the answer is and I'm a native English speaker.

It is "conditioner" (see the 1st page of this thread). Maybe you spelled it wrong?

Some spam is posted by humans who solve captchas. If a human sees a sticky thread with this, he could report it to a spammer who can program.

Hmm, perhaps the correct answer in the system has a capital letter at the start, or something like an erroneous space at the end? There is always a remote possibility I made a spelling error...

I was going to post a thread in the Off-Topic forum to find out the correct answer to the question, but did a search and found this thread. If two people are creating threads about a human verification captcha question then maybe there is an issue with the question - perhaps it sets the bar too high!

I think the bar is probably better set a bit high with a few threads complaining, rather than the mass of crap/spam you get with the bar lower.

The other possibility is that... the captcha question has uncovered that I'm actually a robot.

Yes honestly i have no idea why these questions are even necessary. On a forum for a toxic, extremely large player base, perhaps with a younger playerbase aswell, in a game like fortnite or league of legends? You'd have a reason to have this many verification questions.

In a game with a small a community as rimworld...that is generally played by a more mature audience....just what bots are these questions defending against? If nothing else, its scaring people away from using these forums. I only just joined today to report some bugs to a mod author that doesnt upload on the steam workshop...and i can safely say i wont be using this forum after today for anything other than that. Furthermore, some of the questions are rather bad all things considered "When you bleed what comes out of you?" What if i was squeamish about blood? Other questions also assume people have heard of star wars, which let me tell you, there are people out there that dont have a clue what star wars is. i'm serious.
The funny thing is that someone actually took the time to add in these security questions. I've used this forum template before, a lot of forums use this template, and this is the first time ive seen a security question outside of account recovery. The games community simply isnt anywhere big enough to warrant this, especially when most people will be using the steam forums instead.

This is absolutely ridiculous and i have to say i've lost a little respect for the devs for how little trust they have for us, and for how much they're wasting my time.

Many people play regardless of disability or age, no matter how much it might restrict them. Just recently i saw a video on twitch where some guy MISSING AN ARM beat a game in apex legends, a first person shooter. Hearing impaired people play games all the time, why do you think subtitles are an option? Colourblind people too, evident by the colourbind options. Why is it such a stretch to believe that a person with "bad" eyesight would be playing a game with low res cell shaded graphics like rimworld? My point is that if people want to play bad enough, nothing will stop them from doing so. You cant simply say "Oh well no many people like this will play this game"...So what about those that DO play the game? Are they just to be ignored, despite being customers after having paid for the game?

No offense bros but it's pretty obvious that we all know what an air conditioner is

I don't think it has as much to do with toxic humans as it does spam bots. A couple slip through every now and then and start littering spam posts all about the place.
