Hi all

i wish some suggestion to play as lost tribe on tundra scenario, i'm trying continuously but i fail always same point.....food

i go for scenario with mountain and with a growth season 11spring - 1 fall

When fall arrive, i fast try to harvest all food i can (even 1500 potatoes) and with the first cold snap my entire harvest will remain frozen so don't decay, at the end of fall i co kill every single animal to store meat too, getting even 500 and more meat.... but nothing, during winter (4-5 winter max) i run out food, no animals around and obviously no crops

tried to go for cannibalize, seems to work for 2-3 days but then everybody go crazy and revolt

I haven't created a cannibalize team, nor i have hydrophonic (from begin i arrive at the end of fall with just electricity researched (nothing more), so time is not sufficient to arrive to create hydrophonic.

What's your ideas? actually seems impossible to me, but the focus i think is to survive the first year, then time allow to remedy the lack of food with new research

remove snow from around geothermal vents till you find one or some with some ground around it then build a building around that and put in a sun lamp in there .  I think for tribals on a very cold map I would research advanced clothes then electricity . Everything else can wait.

I'll have to try tribals on tundra or maybe even Ice sheet , though I think Ice sheet might be nearly impossible. But still fun :)_

I'm not sure how much it differs, but When i was playing on a boreal forest with a growing period of 1st of summer to the 11 of summer, I ignored growing all together and was able to collect about 1500 pieces of berries through scavenging. I then furthered that number by killing of big animals like caribou and ibex rams, and created over 70 food. Lasted me until i got demolished by a raid. Mind you this was all on Randy Extreme with a custom scenario to make the start even harder.
Claims to know most things.

Sun lamp use electricity....and i haven't at begin :(

about boreal forest difference, its totally another world, because boreal have trees and a good land even to breed animals, on tundra trees are rare and even brushes :(

:) Yes, thats why I said you should research clothes first to get parkas and tuques , then jump to electricity to get sunlamps working. I'd even put 3 of your 5 starters on research till those two are done , then I'd get stone cutting . Then focus on base building with everyone until you are a little better off .

Pathing

The solution is quite solid.
Cannibalism trait and learning bonus on research skill(for >= 15) are the keys.
You will want 1 or 2 colonists all time to minimize loss from raiders.
The research path is electricity > get heater > hydroponic > nutrient paste dispenser > stone cutting.
Foods are human meat.
And adjusting area in your room to counter freezing temperature and mental state all time is required.
Steel is food. Steel is defense. Steel is weapon.
Steel is RimWorld.

seems parkas and tuqus are useless to research because i normally get all of them easily by raids (pirates love wear warm cloths), so normally i don't have temperature problem during the game even with no lights and no heaters, so i really have to focus more on research and use sun lamp at begin, getting time for hydroponics.
Cannibalism solution is easier to think but not so easy to do and too restrictive, because seems that cannibalism avoid mood loss during the feeding, but the mood loss for the butchering and the social impact is still up, perfect in-human characters should be cannibalist and psychopath to avoid any kind of mood loss, but its practically impossible to get unless i use mod to cheat game :P

i will try more and more, love cold places .....

You don't need hydroponics on a tundra map.  You have plenty of soil.  You just need electricity, heat, and light.

Ice sheets, on the other hand...
If you give an annoying colonist a parka before banishing him to the ice sheet you'll only get a -3 penalty instead of -5.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.

Generalkrunk

I know this sounds silly but start in winter.

This lets you (hopefully) survive off hunting for one season while building the framework for your colony. Then come growing season you can focus 100% of growing and research. Rush electricity/solar and you're good.
Everything burns.

Meziljin

how can i start winter? choosing a 1-11 summer land?

Serenity

In the advanced options where you pick the map size.
