Does anyone know any movies or shows that take place around a planetary colony or that visit one?
There are tons of random sci-fi space things I could watch, but I perfer something that is focused towards colonies and perferably with a tech system comparable to Rimworld, semi-modern semi-space age.

I found a show called Outcasts I just started watching, no idea if it's near what I'm looking for.
Firefly is a good example I can think of, it take places on a spaceship, but they visit several colonies and has a very Rimworld-like feel. Sure they have some high tech, but they're still bumpkins living in the boonies, and if you get shot, theres no high tech healing machine, you get stitches.
Tatooine colony from star wars maybe?

Earth 2 was a quite excellent show, but sadly it was cancelled after one season.

Space: Above and Beyond also features some colonists, and the main character was supposed to join a colony, while his girlfriend did join

Titan A.E. Shows how humans survive after earth's destruction, forming orbital colonies

awesome thread. i'm also interested in what scifi series people are watching.  ;D

here's a few more to add to the list :

-defiance : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2189221/ : aliens from a crashed invader fleet trying to live alongside humans in a post-apo world after their previous war with each other

-falling skies : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1462059/ : although not exactly a colony. their militia group functions similar to a nomadic tribe.

-battle star galactica : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407362/ : pretty famous show. it's like a colony living in a space fleet.

Tynan

Sadly I've found little on the screen (big or small) in this theme. Books are where it's at.

Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars trilogy is widely lauded. But to be honest, I never got into it.

Alistair Reynolds' Revelation Space series takes place over a series of space colonies at close-to-RimWorld tech levels. Start with Revelation Space (the first book).

Alpha Centauri is a good classic game about space colonies.

I don't know much about TV shows regarding that, but if you like something to read instead I'd recommend Last Colony from John Scalzi.
It is the third part of his Old Mans War series, but can be read independently. (Though personally I can also recommend the whole series.)
Also his book Zoe's Tale retells the same story again, just from the viewpoint of the daughter, which goes a bit more into teenager problems on an unknown planet. ;)
