Between dark mines and blackouts from solar flares it would seem intuitive that your colonists would grab themselves a personal light-source. Simple and easy to make, candles would sit in a colonist's inventory flicking on whenever they were anywhere dark. They'd burn out after ten or so hours of continuous use. Lanterns would be the higher-tech version, lasting much longer.

That's in the ballpark yeah. Would be nice to have something to counter rolling blackouts for zzzt, solar flares, and eclipses though. They all shut down your light-sources, unless you want to switch to using torches only... which is doable but it would be nice to have candles/lanterns/flashlights too.
