Welcome to the Call of Cthulhu expansion project for RimWorld, the Rim of Madness.

Mission Statement

  • This will be a series of themed mods inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's works (and other famous horror works). we aim to expand the RimWorld experience by implementing spine-tingling cosmic horrors, themed objects and apparel from the late 18th until early 20th century, sacrificial cult gameplay, and horrific events. Until the expansion is sufficiently large enough, the mods will be separate.

Description
In this mod, Lovecraft will be added to your list of storytellers. In Lovecraft's tales, protagonists often face their own mortality and insignificance in the universe. Threats to your colony and its sanity will be constant. Can your colony survive a cosmic horror tale?

Factions

Description

While the lingering fear of Cthulhu is most unnerving, you are not alone. Secretive coastal fishing villages and bases of operations for The Agency have begun to appear across the rim worlds. While the villages are not fond of outsiders, should you trade with them, you might acquire large hooks, branding irons, flare guns, or even a harpoon! The Agency come attired in stylish trench coats, fedoras, bowler hats, and wield revolvers to put down potential threats. Have fun!

  • Adds The Agency faction
  • Adds the secretive Coastal Fishing Town faction
  • Adds 16 new pieces of apparel: Police Hat, Police Outfit, Bowler Hat, Fedora, Top hat, Trench Coat, Nurse uniform, Nurse cap, Newsboy cap, Slicker hat, Straw hat, and Raincoat. Special forces combat uniform for MERF, MERF coat, light helmet, and heavy helmets.
  • Adds 2 new melee weapons: Hot branding iron (burn damage), Pole hook
  • Adds 3 new ranged weapons: Flare gun, Revolver, Hand-held Harpoon Gun
  • Adds new sounds and projectiles for the Harpoon Gun, Flare Gun and Revolver

Cosmic Horrors

Description
There is a lingering fear that strokes the hairs on the back of the necks of your colonists. Something terrible is coming, and there is little time to prepare. Cosmic horrors most foul are already upon us.

This is an attempt to create the minor races of H.P. Lovecraft's weird fiction mythos in the RimWorld engine. They behave the same as hostile factions that raid colonies such as mechanoids or insectoids. They are deadlier, however.

Notes:

  • Each monster has its own unique anatomical skeleton, organs, body parts, and meat. Some special powers were given to psionic beasts.
  • Each monster has special sound effects.
  • More creatures will be added in a second update in the near future. A third update will flesh out these cosmic horrors with true special abilities true to their literary counterparts.
  • Since I am one person, I can't attest to how balanced the monsters are, and I am definitely looking for feedback from player experiences. Let me know how they are in your game.

Industrial Age Object Pack

Description
Adds new furniture and appliances to your game from the time period of the late 1800's and early 1900s themed after the industrial era of H.P. Lovecraft's writings.

Description

You can now...

  •    found a cult.
  •    worship monstrous deities.
  •    make offerings and animal sacrifices.
  •    make human sacrifices in return for powerful spells (20 in total, plus a dozen side effects).

Recommended mods

  •    Modular tables (for proper temple pews)
  •    Cosmic Horrors (for summoning actual monsters)
  •    Industrial Age (for great lighting)
How do I start a cult?
   1) Load the mod.
   2) Play for a few days in-game (up to 5).
   3) One of your pawns will investigate something horrendous.
   4) Build the forbidden research center.
   5) Research the strange symbols until someone founds the cult.
   6) Good luck.
   
Tips:

  • Cult-mindedness is a new feature under 'needs' that keeps track of how likely colonists are to become cultists.
  • Better apparel means greater worship results and higher success rates for your sacrifices.
  • Beware! If too many colonists are plotting against the cult, they might take matters into their own hands.

The Elder Things 1.0

Description
In this mod, The Elder Things will be added to your game as a playable race. They have custom skeletal structures, sounds, a custom faction, and a custom scenario. The Elder Things are a mixture of plantlike and amphibian biology. They had an advanced society that predated humanity, but they were destroyed when their slaves rebelled. The survivors still require other races to perform their labors for them.

Description
Adds spiders to RimWorld.

  Adds Spiders & Giant Spiders
 

     
  • Eight-legged critters able to weave webs out of incredibly useful silk.
     
  • Giant genetically-engineered intelligent nephilids the size of a canine.
     
  Adds Flying Spider Queens
 

     
  • A failed genetic experiment gone wrong, flying spider queens are capable of creating giant spider eggs and flying short distances.

  • Webs stun smaller animals for spiders to catch.
     
  • Webs can be harvested for spider silk.
Adds Cocoons

     
  • Spiders spin dead or downed prey into cocoons.
     
  • Cocoons will be carried by spiders to other cocoons to help make a spider home.
     
  • Cocoons can have their insides melted, making delicious juice for spiders.

  • Webs and cocoons will occasionally drop spider silk that can be used in creating clothing.

What exactly does H.P. do to your colony so far ?

And I would prefer if you keep your mods splitted, it would be easier to maintain, also I am very peckish on what I like in my mods and what not and splitted mods clarify features more than you think.
Maxim 1   : Pillage, then burn
Maxim 37 : There is no overkill. There is only open fire and reload.
Rule 34 of Rimworld :There is a mod for that.

Have you seen the Pastafarianism mod. You could/may use it to implement old divinity to pray for or something similar.
