Its always neat when outside factions come to the colony, but right now we get perfect information on who's arriving the second they show up. I think it would be pretty interesting if sometimes small groups of travelers couldn't have their identity determined immediately. You'd have to put a security detachment on standby in case things go badly. Maybe they're friendly, maybe they're hostile, maybe they're just passing through, who knows! You could send a colonist to "make contact" to reveal their nature, friend or foe, which may immediately start the bullets flying.

This sounds soo cool! We need more outsider interaction. All we live with on the map are animals.

I believe travelers should announce themselves because they don't want to get shot at. If a stranger goes near my home unannounced I assume he's hostile. And the people sending him should think it was dumb to send someone in like that. And understand my actions.

Though that may mean there are more interactions in how it's handled like some visitors might refuse to tell you who they are, and then you can choose how to deal with it, or they could be enemy sappers. etc.

sounds cool!

but i would like friendly factions to give a call first via the comms console
- on harder settings pirates may do this also to trow you off guard  ::)

a fog of war would help with this tbh, so you would need to keep people on sentry duty
- which makes the night owl trait more valuable
