I was thinking about having more decorations and since I'm not much of a modder, I tried my best to mock up a statue. I don't know exactly how to add this to the game, or what would be the stats and requirments for it, but I thought maybe some of you will have some idea what to do with this.

Ooh, looks cool. Perhaps it would give a small beautiful enviroment bonus, like a larger -more powerful- plant pot?

That's mainly what I thought. But how would you remove the need to water the pot? I think it's hardcoded.

Just couldnt helped myself since they just look sooo awsome :D
So i did you a example mod so you can learn and make more of them. Download it here
Added also a .psb file so you know how to resize it and generaly where to palce it.
And it looks like this in game:
All i do is clutter all around.

Looks great! You could mod this in very easily as a simple object with a high beauty. Not sure you could make it turn nicely atm though.

I hope to do a system where artists can create artworks that are nicer or uglier depending on the artist's skill.

Yopu did alredy just for pawns and not for objects, pawns got, side, front and back texture in the thingtexture .psb you posted, just dont know how to do that on objects :D

Monkfish

Nice! I can see this extending to fountains and other such random frivolous items.

Thanks, mrofa, That's amazing!
That'll make it a lot easier for me to add new statues.
I'll get to work on this.

Perhaps watering could be renamed "cleaning". That seems like an quickfix bypass of the hardcoding.  :P Those statues gather dust, you know...

I think you could make a poster or painting if you use the same shape and overdraw,
basically just retexture and make standable, but cut off part of the statue, leave only what is in front of the light grey of the wall.
Would still need rotational faces to work properly, but I think this would be a possible way to currently mod posters over walls?
Sorry for my crappy paint work, just to show how it would work in principle.
You can't rollerskate in a muffalo herd

mrofa

It will work only if item is not rotable since back side of a wall and front side have diffrent sizes, did try that already, its only few pixels but the diffrence is very notable, even with flat object like floor lamp from e-furniture, so basicly yes if they are not rotable they can be posted on the wall.
But you can do nice celing lamps with that technique, atlast in looks still the problem is that if colonist pass it it will be like he is on the lamp, same with the poster above.

Architect

You could do the rotation for it in C# when alpha 3 comes out?
Check out BetterPower+ and all its derivatives by clicking the picture below.

It adds many new methods of power generation and uses for it, as well as other things such as incidents.

mrofa

Well i think it would be basicly to copy part of pawns code since in thing graphic resoures they use front, back and side textures.

A simpler solution would be to make the walls themselves a type of decorative wall (like DF).
Made a mockup of what I was thinking

I dont think poster should have the cross-over issue like ceiling lamps, colonists should cross in front of posters, yet under the lamps. But yeah, making is non-rotational is necessary, need as many pixels as possible to retain picture quality.

Yeah that's an awesome idea! Btw welcome to the forums Elerd, way to make a stomping impact! I make alot of different wall types, all unreleased. I considered recolorations, but nothing like this. Could have a whole mod set of different pretty walls.  This wouldn't work for painting so much, as the same painting would be repeated constantly. But maybe a wall type where every section of the wall has a different picture?
