Have a researchable item that replaces the crematoria with a recycler.  The recycler should more efficiently turn items and critters into usable materials.

Another building that should be available is a composting pit, where dead (or even living) critters can be disposed of along with  other appropriate items or materials.  The output should be fertilizer that can upgrade vegetable plot fertility and methane that can be piped to fuel generators and benches.
