Crater could occur in any biome, like hill or mountain.  Crater terrain would be roughly circular: an outer edge area which is mostly flat, then a ring of hill/mountain all the way around forming a perfect circle, though with gaps in the ring wall.  Inside would be flat, but roughly half in middle would have deep water or ice, with swamp/shallow water around the edges.  But there would also be a chance of a single hill or mountain in the exact middle, like a bullseye, possibly accessible if it's not entirely ringed by deep water (and is sometimes seen in real craters).

what if this could be caused by a event a meteor why strike the planet and temperature would rise for a prolonged amount of time and on the world map a new biome would appear called crater and there would be lots of steel and resources but basically no plant life and very poor soil. You could settle there after the event. this is clearly a more complex suggestion and is suited for alpha 16

Now THAT I like.

schizmo

The impact would likely result in a tremor that would damage walls and objects across the map, and would probably also cause a volcanic winter. this would mean adding earthquakes, too, which could also function on their own without a meteor strike.

I like all of this

Icarus

Can we just agree that world map should change as gameplay goes on?

Meteors, volcanos, toxic wastelands and tiles reverting to their previous state and so on.
