[a16 unstable version] Resolution and UI scaling

I cannot say if this is a bug or just unlucky situation. I changed UI to 2x last time I was at RW I think. Now when I start the game the UI is huge and it seems impossible to alter the resolution or UI settings because .... the UI doesn't fit the screen. When I click options I seem to see the resolution to the left and I get options (I can't read, but I see the border of  buttons), but clicking these render a message that I cannot choose that resolution because the UI wouldn't fit.

I tried to go back to the normal RW version and set it at largest resolution possible... but reinstalling the open beta caused the same situation all over.

If posting this in the bug section is wrong, just movie it to the newbie "I messed up" section ;)

Possible solution would be to open in windowed in order to get to options? But I cannot figure out how this could be done.

I'm pretty sure Steam Sync is responsible for restoring that error (restoring your settings file).  Disable Steam Sync for RimWorld then wipe & reinstall.  It *should* fix it.  (I'm at work, so I can't be more specific, but if you knew which file(s) to edit, you wouldn't necessarily need to reinstall either.)

And I'd call this a Bug - it's certainly not intended behavior.  I haven't actually fired up A16 yet (won't have time until 2017 most likely), but I assumed the UI scale would automatically adjust to the screen's resolution.  I guess I assumed wrong.

It doesn't seem like I have cloud sync enabled. So I cannot uncheck it.

Now alpha 16 is released so I uninstalled rimworld, choose to opt out of betas. But the problem still persists... so I cannot play the game.

I have no idea to continue with this, so I am happy to receive help.

You say you haven't got Steam sync enabled, but did you do the other part of milon's suggestion. Which is to completely uninstall the game, and wipe all the game files and registry entries? Step-by-step instructions for this, along with a script to clean the registry, can be found in the following thread.

Please try that and let us know if it fixes the issue. Also what operating system are you using? As I think some O/S's might allow screen panning.

I just reinstalled the game. Didn't get the "wipe" part I'm afraid :)

So I will check the link and do my best. Thanks for helping out guys!

Quote1. Reset RimWorld's configuration data by deleting all the RimWorld configuration files. You'll find them in the following folders (depending on your operation system):

Just deleting the config folder and restarting (not needing to reinstall) solved the problem! :)

Aaaaaaaw!

Now I feel much better. Thanks a lot! :)

Good to hear you've managed to solve the issue. I looked through the files in the config folder before posting but couldn't see any info on fullscreen and/or screen resolution, so didn't think deleting just them would solve this issue. But then it was very late here, and my temporary blindness was likely playing up again, so guess I missed it. Either way it's great you're able to play the game again, so happy RimWorlding! :)

I'll close this thread now as resolved (although it might be worth drawing Tynan's attention to this sort of issue at some point in the near future, as he might be able to put a config reset option (or similar) in the top-left corner of the menu screen to make solving a problem like this a lot easier on the user).
