Caravans can stop and gather resources

simple concept, you can bring your caravan to a square, and tell them to gather a certain resource, and depending on how many colonist, what levels, and other things such as environment, you get x amount.

sooooo you suggest that you just ask for a resource on a tile, and get x amount based on skills and colonists. Soooo by that logic you take a caravan across the map, and ask for a resource in every new tile you touch, and just get free resources......

Dukkha

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. It would be a possible alternative to the multiple colony issue. As romantic as multiple colonies are, the balancing and processing issues are pretty apparent.

I wouldn't call it getting "free" resources. You have to sacrifice having those colonists being in your base as well as not being able micro managing their actions. There's the possibility of ambushes or weather your not prepared for.

I think the idea has potential.
Losing is fun!

You could have the option to set up a camp on a temp map. You set "x" amount of days on the micro map to do what you need to do. But Dukkha's idea would sound better.

Why take away control when you can do this yourself already?

Can you not already temporarily settle a spot, cut down all trees, mine all the steel you see, whatever you want, packup and leave again?
The only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down.

woulnt say it like that, there can still be ambushes and other threats to make it not just "free resources". and like stated by Dukkha, processing multiple colonies can be an issue, so some people cant just make more colonies when they are out of things such as steel. so, this is a simple fix to that.

I understand where you're coming from. Not everyone is using the same hardware to play. But a "click to harvest everything" button seems too easy.

Ambushes, that adds plenty of risk to it, because.your not going to have defenses.
