In the distant future of Rimworld, would you like a world-startup option to have a hordes of zombies walk in the map instead of a raider landings?

Zombie hordes would be an awesome addition!

No, the names of the raiders would not just be changed to "zombies". The size of the zombie attacks would grow considerably faster than normal, any humans killed would turn, raiders would stroll by occasionally, animal life would be removed, and bodies could be burned. Several tweaks could be made to make this feel more like an apocalypse! (Yes this has been discussed, but I haven't seen a poll on this.)

I'd love to see zombies but I really do feel it should be left to modders. I think the developers should just be focusing on adding more features and content (character personality, items, rooms, machines, food, bandits, ect).

Yeah, zombies wouldn't fit with the main game and the RimWorld universe, but a mod would be cool to have.
I like how this game can result in quotes that would be quite unnerving when said in public, out of context. - Myself

The dubious quotes list is now public. See it here

Why zombies.. Why fucking zombies errywhere..

Plz no.

I voted 'We don't need another zombie game' BUT - it might be interesting to have zombies as a very rare event.

I think replacing raiders with zombies would be a mistake since Rimworld is really not designed accordingly. Slow moving enemies without guns wouldn't stand a chance, even in overwhelming numbers.

Zombies would be bloody dreadful, I hope to god that they arn't implemented.
They've been done to death.

Gideon

The theme for this game is supposed to be semi-hard sci-fi. According to the design docs, there isn't even a means of superluminal travel speeds; something we think may actually be possible.

Zombies exist well beyond the boundaries of plausible science, as far as we know.

If you want a horde to attack, you need to come up with something that is scientifically plausible.

Maybe calling them zombies or the living dead would be too much of a stretch, but I like the idea of a different kind of attack to fend off. Different rules about how the attackers operate would break raider monotony, and a scenario where colonists under melee attack have a chance of contracting the disease themselves and turning a couple days later could be tense and fun. Call it a cordyceps-like fungal infection or a 28-Days-type viral contagion if you're too hung up on "zombie".

It isn't so much the word "zombie", its the concept of them that is becoming tiresome.
"Oh no a determined, aggressive and single minded horde is attacking us!!1"  It's a trope that's been done to death  and Rimwolrd would be worse off if zombies were implemented in my opinion.

I think it would make an awesome mod that I would totally play for shits and giggles, but shouldn't be part of the core game.

There is a reason that so many different games have a zombie mode. It's because they're FUN! It is a great diversion to step back from whatever game you're playing and enjoy that game's mechanics in a fun, straightforward, zombie apocalypse survival challenge. It is universally understood, simple, and entertaining. Undead Nightmare was an AWESOME addition to Red Dead Redemption. Nazi Zombies was great in COD. Dayz took off like a rocket, leaving ArmaII in the dust. And you know what? No matter how many zombie games/modes/mods you've played, you probably haven't played one with RimWorld's mechanics, and it would probably lead to some pretty hilarious deaths as your colonists struggle to survive the onslaught.

Everyone complaining about zombies... "I liked zombies before they were cool and now they're played out and they suck and everyone who likes them sucks." You're just a bunch of video game hipsters  :P

Not if the mod/game was designed to severely limit the number of weapons and colonists you have, as would be the case in a zombie event, especially if limits were put on turrets as well. And who said the zombies had to be slow? Ever seen the new Dawn of the Dead or 28 (x) later series? Zombies aren't all slow and stupid with their arms hanging forward saying "braaaaaaains" any more.

Who cares? I also don't think it's scientifically plausible that agave and raspberries, terrestrial plants, are growing wild on far-away unexplored planets, but I don't hear anyone complaining.

Potatoes. Mods can handle this.  ::)

I don't feel that zombies would be a good fit for Rimworld although the ability to add them as a mod would be nice.

I do feel that some other kind of non zombie virulent plague might be an interesting idea. For example you capture a raider and they infect your warden with space flu and then spread it to the rest of your colony.
Infected colonists are unable to work and without medical equipment or supplies have a chance of dieing from the illness. Maybe even have a way to minimize spread such as quarantine and hygiene practices.
