Maybe you can add an option in "Advanced" so when you want to exploit the edges you have to configure it so.

I instantly identified the reason for not being able to build at the map edge. It makes sense so as to not exploit AI. You could also make it an option, and to create a balance perhaps a Dune-esque shai hulud could randomly patrol the borders... let them learn the edge is bad through danger? a fictional reason as to the map limitation :)

Or pirate sappers, digging in from the map edges?

"Chef John is missing... and theres a suspicious hole in the kitchen floor with a note that reads:
'Dear colony, I stole your cook, you may not have noticed due to your shortsightedness but on the other side of this arbitrary line is my camp. You will probably be able to smell his cooking still. Good luck.'"

What is a Dune-esque shai hulud?

Please remove it, I really love the game but this is the worst idea ever made.
The raids which come from the edge of the map ever start at the opposite side of the map anyway when you build at the edge. So I don't see the sense of it.
I don't know. I like the new raider system. never know what it will be even if your not on randy random, could be 5 guys with rocks or 2 guys with guns. seems balanced to me. people being able to spawn right on top of you seems fair to me. just a daring move on there part
Video games, are pretty good

For what it's worth, I'm with Tynan on the restrictions. Technically exploiting a game to beat the mechanics of it is pointless and, in my view, in the same bandcamp as cheating. I see no point in either; if you can't beat the game legitimately then either drop the difficulty or, if it can't go any lower, stop playing. A win by exploitation or cheating is no win at all.

i think the edge restrictions was enforced to allow travelers from other colonies to drop by from their off-screen colonies, otherwise they get stuck on the edges.

edit : it might be good if they add color markings for the edge zones so that players know the buildable areas.

A color marking around the edges yes, but please make it hideable like stockpiles, so we toggle it when we need to see it.

If the game gets too hard for someone, they should take a break with some dwarf fortress, just to remember how easy we actually have it in rimworld :P Good practice

It appears when you have a building selected in architect mode and are trying to place it. Similar to the electricity grid.

I never saw it as a problem. Just surround your base in the middle with stone walls they cant destroy those and then barbwire around that to kill any who try. I have yet to find it difficult to build in the middle.
