Without a doubt, with all the attention to detail that is already in the game of rimworld, which by the way is one of my most favorite games ever created-

Religion should be added to the game, it could be instituted in a way where half the pawns practice one religion and the other half of the pawns practice another religion.

Religion (A) could be where there pawns pray at night and religion (B) could be where ponds pray during the day (plus random little differences)

And just like in real life *cough* these small minor differences in their religion can eventually cause both religions to clash in violent Holy Wars in which they slaughter their own colonies and each other and it ends up burning to the ground if not dealt with appropriately. (Just like in real life)

But everything in rimworld has to be balanced so there should be some plus sides to having religion in the game, some blessings, if you will.

When different colonists join your Colony or you interact and try to recruit prisoners each can have their own respective religion and you can either try to convert them or consider adopting their religion, whatever works best for your type of colony and how you run it.

Each of the different made up religions in rimworld could favor different types of play and reward certain behaviors while severely penalizing others.

Another good option to have would be to not have any religion in your colony in which you would have to purge those who are fervent in their beliefs or try to convert them into not believing in any type of rimworld deity.

I got the idea from the Cults mod that I recently enjoyed playing.

:D plus I see current events on the news regulary and am inspired by how well real life is playing out right now... :/

Disagree, too radical a change. It'd disturb gameplay too much.

It's the year 5500. Just like in reality, religion is slowly disappearing.

Besides, why would they believe in gods when science explains everything? There is no "rain god" for example.

Religious themed factions on the other hand, this would work well. The factions would respond to you based on how much your activities conform to their religion. Now that would be something.

I found it only interesting for tribal plays.
I will never do worse than what I do now.

No way religion is disappearing. People are super superstitious. Even the Chinese who are officially atheistic have various divinations and rules what you should do for good luck. Surprisingly large portion of people are irrational. Theory of evolution is being removed from education in USA and in my country. And some religions like Islam and Scientology are very invasive. Whether Scientology is truly a religion doesn't matter, because...

...Religion is fundamentally about power. It's a tool to rule irrational people. It works very well for that purpose and religious hierarchy works very hard so it stays that way. Joshua (Jesus) was killed because he threatened to shake religious power. Scientology believers know that its author was a professional science-fiction writer, but they BELIEVE anyway. Cults and sects have first rate knowledge about human psychology, in fact - psychologists study cults and sects to learn more about manipulation. The situation reminds that of probability, which was initially ridiculed and considered at best a part of physics. It was being developed mostly at casinos - those people knew how crucially important it is. Even today, we have cutting edge field of technology developed mostly by shady people. I'm talking about image recognition and spammers. Spammers work hard to defeat captchas and spam filters. It's an arms race so we can all drown in a sea of unwanted advertisments. For this reasons I FEAR the coming of artificial intelligence, because it would be a perfect tool to generate human-like letters impossible to stop by filters.
