Tilt the planet so it represents the seasons better

Just like Earth. :P Also, events like Eclipse and so on should be applied to all colonies.

Toxic fallout should affect large portion of the planet, too (maybe visible on the world map?)

It is? o_o I must be blind. Or my monitor is tilted. D:

Then only the problem of local eclipses remains. :P

Your tile (hex) is in the umbra of the eclipse, and is the only real tile effected at that time. There's your explanation :D

Crazy how frequently that happens, eh? ;)

I agree, Id like to be able to see the eclipse on the world map. Depending on if this would be a coding issue or not with the RNG, you could then anticipate them coming, plus I think it would look cool as hell to see portions of the planet darkened because of an eclipse.

If Tynan doesn't like this for whatever reason I can understand that too, and just because you can see the tiles around you doesn't mean you know whats going on there, kinda like a map rather than satellite image.

It is tilted! And it matches the seasons!
But does it match the sunlight hours, like polar nights? Does it affect solar panel efficiency? Is it reverse for the southern hemisphere? Is precession implemented? And nutation? Ok, I will go back into the vacuum of space.

*This post started in a serious manner and went a bit south. Physicists.
Serious question: Why can't we adjust the tilt? Right, because it requires some non trivial code, but would be nice to have. Polar nights/days ftw!

Neat fact, have you ever tried to put a solar panel on an ice sheet near the poles?.... You don't get very much power because the rays of the sun hitting the planet do not come in at 90 degrees. This is simulated in the game by percentage power gain of the panel. You actually get VERY LITTLE power from the solar panels here.

I can confirm that, and that is neat. :)

I don't think it's possible to get a complete polar night in Rimworld, even though it's supposed to occur within 5 degrees of the poles on Earth.  Also, I haven't found a latitude yet where the sun actually stays above the horizon all day; the most I get is a semi-dark twilight.
Totally agree on the planet tilt change.

Nope, but Sea Ice Community Challenge is where I'll crashland next. I know that solar panels don't work as good in the North, but it's a fixed value and not dependent on sunlight angle (is it?), which would be neccessary for polar days/nights and astronomically correct calculation of all the stuff I mentioned. ;)

Well I want "Axial Tilt" to be a configurable setting for the planet so you can choose the strength of seasonal climate variation.

There's no reason to assume that every Rimworld would have the exact same tilt as the earth, though.  It might be neat to have it randomized in the planet simulation process.
