Has anyone tried this yet ?

Hive Spawn is triggered by mined out spaces.
Does filling up those spaces with walls reduce this count ?

They only spawn in open areas, so technically if you fill the entire area with rock chunks or walls they cannot spawn.

Well, since filling those spaces with wires seems (not too sure if it was fixed in A16) to work, I have no reason to think filling them with walls wouldn't. Then again, it might just be more useful to have a designated location with a high infestation chance so the rest of your base is relatively safe...

But it does not lower the chance of spawns on the map ?

Well I want to build a mountain home, so yeah, but putting cables everywhere is quite the fire hazard and ruins the room stats.

Spawns are affected right now by 2 things:

1. roof (must be natural / thick - that means overhead mountain)
2. temperature (+17 C)

The rest are speculations. Cables, flooring, light = BS. Check the game files.

Mining out faraway open spaces "under mountain" mitigates the chance from your base. Don't forget to place a door to separate these faraway spaces from "outside" tiles. That brings infestation chance up. You can check in the devtools (view infestation chance) to get a feel for it.
about -17 deg will prevent infestations but who wants to live in icy chambers?

there is one key situation where filling in will definitely work with no speculation and is a perfectly viable, if not desirable option:

If you're playing a flat or maybe small hills map and you only dug into a mountain for minerals, which just HAPPENED to go deep enough to open up overhead mountain, then COMPLETELY filling with walls (not just surrounding and walling) all the overhead mountain tiles will definitively eliminate any chance of an infestation.

In most any other situation, there will be too many overhead mountain tiles to make walling them a valid option (and if you're playing on super mountainy maps, you're probably LIVING underground).  Obviously if wiring works, its a valid option...but at that point, why not just edit the scenario you're playing and disable infestations?
