So I had an idea. I want to use EdB Prepare Carefully in order to start a new colony with characters based on my friends and family, but I don't want to have to start with more than three people. Is it possible to make a custom pool of colonists from which the game can select people for the wanderer join, escape pod crash and person chased by enemies events? I'd assume when the game runs out of people to pick from said pool, it would then start generating as normal.

with the Prepare Carefully mod, you can save and load individual colonists as well as complete teams. So if you like or design a favorite character and save them, you'll start building a collection.

I know, I'm already doing this, but do the saved characters spawn from random events in-game too?

I've never seen that happen from the saved collection of character from Prepare Carefully.

From the main menu, in the options tab there is a button marked "add favorite characters" and it looks like it was designed for that purpose. But I'm not seeing any way to actually add player generated characters.

Maybe it's an unfinished feature of Rimworld.

Yeah, the "add favourite characters" option seems to just make it more likely for characters, added by those who bought the name-in-the-game or backstory-in-game upgrades, to appear. As far as I can tell, the characters created and saved by Prepare Carefully are simply just saved to be used in the creation of a new colony, they don't seem to be placed into the circulation or character "pool," as it were.

It would be ideal if someone could make this possible with a mod, though. I'd love to be able to create a list of characters based on my friends and have them appear throughout my game alongside random and name-in-the-game characters. Perhaps even EdB could consider it as a feature for Prepare Carefully. Is it possible to inject custom pawns into the game in order to randomly appear in certain events? (I wouldn't want my friends to appear as raiders or traders, so maybe that could be considered as an option if EdB is interested? Can pawn be generated in events? yes/no Can pawn be a member of another faction? yes/no etc)

I am going to put this mod in the unfinished section for anyone who wants to offer to help finish it. I have no contact with the original creators and am wondering how to move this thread to the unfinished section.

My Editable Backstories, in addition to replacing the default backstory database with a fully editable database, also allows you to add names to the game. You can add names by themselves, in which case a pawn of any background could show up with that name, or you can add names that will always be attached to specific childhood and adulthood stories.

Yea, having the ability to add these saved pawn files to the custom pools for events would be ideal. I know there's a means to add likelihood for pawns to appear, but those only seem to be for the backers, which I understand if its not possible or if he doesn't want this to be added; it kind of would circumvent that backer benefit.

but it'd be cool if your custom pawns could at least be in your own game. I'd like to have the tough choice of fighting off pirates to rescue my best friend regardless of how bad of shape my base is in.
