Revealed Area question

Tried searching for it but could find nothing relevant..

Just  a simple question. I'm playing in a mountainous map and my base is at the end of a long valley. I have only one opening in the terrain where anyone can attack from. While mining I exposed a large 'revealed area'. This area extends from my base all the way to the map edge. So my question is...can visitors/raids now come from that direction?

If I don't have to build defenses for that direction, I will be really happy, as my base setup will have to be completely changed up otherwise.

Thanks in advance for any responses

Yes, unfortunately if the opening extends to the edge of the map, raids and visitors can now spawn there.
The only difference between screwing around and science is writing it down.

Ugh I figured that would be the answer...time for a complete re-design..oh well

Ty for the quick response

If you wall-off access from your base to that valley, and then dig a tunnel linking the secret valley to the main map, then I'm pretty sure raiders will decide to come in your  front door even if they spawn over there.
Mental break: playing RimWorld

And drop pod's attacker could land there too.

Same happen when you mine your mountain to the edge of the map, you open an attack way for attacker.
You better keep the unbuildable area untouched.
But i dig a small hallway to the closest edge, together with the assignable caravan spot, caravan trader mosttimes use this hallway to exit the map.

I ended up walling it off and making a path to main area like suggested and so far only one visitor has come through new section. But he went right for the path I created. I tripled walled so I hope it doesn't look too inviting.

Guess the real test is when sappers start showing up. :)

Edit:  On a somewhat unrelated note: If I eventually build a wind farm in this area, I have a question on placement. For a wind turbine, do I have to worry about surrounding terrain? What I mean is if I put it right up against mountainous terrain, will I get a negative modifier on production even though I have enough space otherwise?  I don't know if the steep terrain would block the wind....seems the developer has given a lot of thought to everything and wonder if this is part of the equation.

Also on solar panels...do the shadows created by walls/terrain affect energy output? Sorry for all the rookie questions...I could probably find out on my own but my playing time is limited so I don't have much time to try 'trial and error'

Again thanks for all the replies...you all seem to be a nice group on the forums...nice change from several others I had the misfortune of asking rookie questions on :D

Nope as long as nothing is blocking the wind turbine like walls, roofs, or trees it doesnt matter where you put it. Just keep it's zone clear of those 3 things
Don't mind the questions. I'm probably just confused.

Also, solar panels are not affected by shadows cast from mountains.

Power = 1700*Illumination-Level && Unroofed

Illumination Level however is purely a matter of sunlight amount on the map, and shadows drawn by mountains and walls are purely visual but do not affect the solar panel's performance in any way.

You can fully wall in a solar panel and it'll work perfectly well (so long as you leave it unroofed!) despite being partially shadowed basically all day.
