Will enemy ever pick up your weapons?

I was thinking of placing some mini-armory stockpiles dotted around near my towers containing weapons like SMGs and Machine Pistols, for my snipers to switch to once the battle gets to inside the base. So I was wondering if it was safe to do so from a security point of view. Would raiders that breached my walls ever pick up these weapons and turn them against me?

What about berserk prisoners? Will they pick up a weapon if one is available to them?

Then I was thinking that guns also have a negative beauty value so having them in sight is best avoided, which might mean creating mini-rooms with a door. But then I thought about equipment racks - do they hide the ugliness of the things they contain? If so, then they'd be quite cool to use for this purpose.

I'm not sure about if raider's pick up weapons, I haven't noticed if they do, they never seem to go for downed or dropped weapons that are superior to theirs. Prisoners can and will pick up your own guns and blast away at ye. I now make sure my gun's and such are a long way away from my prison's. I'll test the beauty gun rack thing when I get home.

Equipment racks do reduce the ugliness of their contents. Of the top of my head, having weapons just lying around applies something like a -15 beauty modifier, while weapons on a rack have only a -7 (less than a single pile of dirt). If you set up some sculptures next to the weapon racks, the beauty hit is basically negligible.

I've never seen an attacking raider try to switch weapon for any reason. I don't think it's part of how they work. They always come with a weapon and never drop or switch it, even if it causes them mood loss (brawlers). Escaping prisoners will beeline for the nearest available weapon, but that's a different story and the behaviour seems to be unique to prisoners.

Prisoners also Switch to better weapons when they find some.

Stockpile some shoddy stone clubs near your prison .. they are worse than fists and have a terrible attack speed, then clobber them into submission with wood.

Maxim 1   : Pillage, then burn
Maxim 37 : There is no overkill. There is only open fire and reload.
Rule 34 of Rimworld :There is a mod for that.

_ I've seen raiders pick up rockets and grenades that dropped from their comrades and use them to fight. But i never let raiders go so deep into my base that can reach my arsenal so i don't know if they can pickup weapons from racks or not.

After this one incident I had with a grenade rack too close to the prison, every escapee gets put down with lethal force. Prison break is a potentially devastating event if you don't plan for dealing with an escape.

_ My prison almost usually is built next to my big food store with entrance there, and my food store is next to kitchen which is also next to canteen. There is a high way that connect : food store, kitchen, canteen, public room and it's very busy there, prisoners ( if they jail break ) should not reach any weapons and got catch in seconds after they decided to rebel, and even if my people can not group up yet, prisoners must go through food store to get to the high way and walk a long way to nearest door to escape from the base. And at the other end of the high way is my group of sleeping rooms next to the main gate.

_ Anyways, prisoners will never be my problems, my base design counters that.

Yeah under normal circumstances enemies will never seek out your weapons, prison break being the exception. The only time an enemy will drop their weapon is when you whacked both his/her arms off, that leaves her unable to pick up stuff though ;D

What I imagine could happen is a frag grenade destroying an already damaged weapon a raider is carrying, I dont know if he ll actively seek out weapons afterwards, my guess is he ll bleed to death or get shot before that happens though. And the rpg raiders are weaponless as well after they fired, but if those got a shot off you ll have other problems than a raider picking up your stuff.
So, aside from prison breaks, your weapons are pretty safe.

There's a mod called Slightly Increased Difficulty (can't seem to find it now) which allows enemies to pick up weapons if they can (alongside other things). In the base game, they don't.
