Since the current faction system is barebones at the moment I think that it might be reworked to provide to make the world more alive and give the player more reason to interact with them.

*instead of having tribals, outlanders, and pirates be represented by one super faction have them be broken up to make room for local factions who can start at the game or through expansion have multiple settlements.

*only nearby factions should be be visible to the player's starting location and through exploration or asking for information you can discover other factions or locations of interest.

*factions or the player could set up trade routes with each-other which will arrive at a preset time and destination. This could use the future road system to speed this up.

*factions can raid eachother for resources, have a ceasefire or peace treaty, and have mutual cooperation with or without the player intervention.

Feel free to help expand these ideas since I'm certain I'm forgetting some of them.

Well don't put in to much .. It only distracts from the base Idea.

Which is one I would like to see ingame as well.

Maybe less with Outlanders, but Tribes and Pirates should work that way.
Maxim 1   : Pillage, then burn
Maxim 37 : There is no overkill. There is only open fire and reload.
Rule 34 of Rimworld :There is a mod for that.
