Peering into Factions

Summary: Right now if we go to world and click on a faction we can't see anything. All we are left with is our imagination. I think it is a good idea for Tynan to add a look feature into faction bases. When we click this "look button" we can see what the faction is doing. Key: we can only look into faction bases that we are friendly with so that it wouldn't give players an unfair advantage of infiltrating enemy bases or sabotaging allies.

Benefits? I believe it will be a fun idea to implement. You can look into how well your allied factions are doing compared to you. It makes it feel like the world is more alive rather than seeing texts when clicking on a faction.

The faction system as is, pawns/things happening only generates when you visit them. Otherwise they're not in existance yet.

The problem with this idea is twofold: Performance, and savefile bloat.

Right now, faction bases are generated and discarded as needed; This keeps them from causing a save file to get considerably larger, as it doesn't have to save the faction base to the save file at all beyond the period you're interacting with it. The same is true with performance; I have a fairly decent system, but I start to experience noticeable slowdowns when I've got a temporary faction base or a second base of my own; Nothing my system can't handle, but I start to get slight skips and jumps, as my system is now simulating multiple maps at the same time.

So unless they're able to figure out some serious solutions for performance boosts and ways to keep the savefile size down (as savefile bloat can also cause performance problems in late game) I don't think this is feasible, no matter how cool it would be.

Maybe something like

instead of fully generating an outpost. Would help with the world-building without causing much performance issues.

Maybe something like

I would love that. It would be great if you could interact with towns in some way besides attacking or trading.
