Without the ability to create this myself, I suggest an expansion of the prisoner recruit system.
I think the subject explains itself, however, briefly; encourage the prisoner to join the colony by using certain methods. Perhaps removing a finger, or starvation, or beating them up. I'm sure many of you can expand on this to offer more depth.

That is just brutal and would never work in real life. If you want to recruit a prisoner you treat him well but if you are waiting for slave traders to by him do what you want to the prisoner. Torture would just seem useless This is rimworld so....maybe

Razzoriel

That's counter-productive. You don't torture someone to convince them to join you.

Now, maybe torture a prisoner to gain intelligence from the prisoner's faction.. that i can understand.

What would require new game content.
Maybe something about stash resources, boss hideaway...

What about using your prisoners as working slaves?

when they don't work you could just cut his finger off or something...

I'm actually working on a Slavery mod right now. It's meant to be just the basics without all the bells and whistles like that one mod back in A14 that hasn't been updated. So it can be easily maintained for future RimWorld updates.

But essentially what you do is craft a slave collar and set the prisoner interaction mode to the new option "Enslave". Then your warden will go and clamp it around their neck and presto (of course they might not be happy about this). Depending on some factors they'll try to escape every so often until their willpower is eventually broken by beatings/failed escapes. You can emancipate a slave by unequipping the slave collar in their gear menu; if they're in a prison cell when freed they'll be reimprisoned but no longer a slave- in all other contexts they'll be treated as a released prisoner and wander off the map.

It's almost finished; just needs some polishing up before I make a testing release.

I would glad to try it even if that's not exactly I would have make such a mod...
Slavery has been debated a lot and I think the main problem is still balance and how to make them different from colonists.

Make it so that they can give you information about places and what items there are there if you torture somebody.

I think that requires a lot more work than what he/she actually mentioned

For balancing there are a few things- you have to craft a slave collar (takes time like any other apparel), and the slave's willpower- they will try to keep escaping until you've broken their will, which depending on the traits of the slave may take a fairly long time.

It's a good point there is not much difference in mechanics between how a slave operates and how a colonist operates- so that's exactly what I did; you enslave them and they join your faction. They get a chain icon in their portrait showing they're a slave, unlocked work types (what would a slave be without coerced labour), and thoughts related to their situation, but otherwise they're identical. How you treat your slaves in relation to your free men will be entirely up to you. It's effectively a secondary means of recruiting prisoners when you don't have the time or patience to have them sit around eating your food; instead of dealing with waiting for them to join, you have to deal with them escaping.

I think torture actually was an option in an early, early build. Can't remember, maybe it was there as an option but not implemented.

Thirite

Yeah, I hear you had to scare the crap out of prisoners to recruit them in early builds. Inducing Stockholm Syndrome via "hazing". Pretty messed up, haha.
