My entire screen goes black shortly after starting up RimWorld

When I start RimWorld, the normal loading screen shows up, but a few seconds later I see "InitializingInterface" and the screen goes fully black. It does not exit out of the game or close, but there is no sound or visual feedback whatsoever. I have tried to fix this by verifying game cache, uninstalling, manual file deletion and reinstalling. I have tied switching builds, uninstalling all mods, and then the above again. But nothing seems to work, I keep getting the same black screen and I can't play the game at all.

I am on a Windows 10 desktop PC and using the Steam version if that helps any bit. I have been playing RimWorld for months without incident.
