It's not my fault you got eaten by monkeys

Some tribespeople came to my area to trade one day and as they were leaving a pack of manhunting monkeys appeared and obliterated the traders. For each delicious tribesperson consumed, I lost five reputation, even though it wasn't my fault. This is discriminatory! If I had killed them, I'd understand them being less trusting, but I've got no control over this.

Not my monkeys, not my circus, Blue Hedgehog Baban Tribe. Deal with it. I don't know what to say, the monkeys won't do.

Your base, your fault. You should ensure that visitors are safe from man eating monkeys and other deadly critters. A good host would lay down his own life to ensure that his guests are not harmed.

In most of the ancient world the custom was that the host was responsible for the safety of his guests. If his guests were harmed in any way their relatives and friends would hold the host personally responsible. So man up and take better care of your guests!  ;D

I have never seen this happen even though I often let caravans, which happen to be there, take care of those ... inconveniences.

Do you have Hospitality installed or has this been added just recently and I didn't notice it yet?

In most of the ancient world, if you told your guests "come inside, there's a pack of monkeys on the way, oh, and don't stand in front of the turrets", they'd do it.

The problem is that you can't do anything about it, but rush out to your doom. You can't tell visitors to not come by when you're under siege by manhunters. And you can keep them inside until the threat has passed.

It is an A17 anti-cheese mechanic to prevent people from killing visiting caravans in indirect ways to get their stuff without paying.

It is also annoying, frustrating, and counter-intuitive. The idea that the player is "responsible for protecting" a caravan that came onto their land without asking and which can be jumped right at the map edge by a manhunter pack or raid (both of these things have happened to me) without giving the player any specific tools to do so is just silly.

Anyway, I made a specific suggestion about this a while back, perhaps it would be of interest to OP. https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=33273.0

They came back and got into a fight with each other. More death, more blaming me. I'm just going to start murdering these people since there's no reason not to at this point.
