I know it sounds weird but i like the concept of having a railroad.

For those who like to trade, this would be a godsent. But in case you did make a new settlement, wouldn't it be nice to have something that was set in an easy way for colonists to travel? Not to mention manage supplies. plus it might help build relations with other settlements.

I know that they have the Launch pads and pods, but those take time to build and are single use. I know its a weird idea but thats just me.

Some ideas from people on steam about the subject:

Mad hatters in jeans-
IE a nearby friendly settlement wants to split the cost of upgrading the path to your settlement for X amount of resources.
Could go something like
Dirt road > 100 silver per map tile
Paved road > 100 stone per map tile
Railroad > 100 steel per map tile

Another guy had a few good ideas but there were a lot but they were good, I just don't think I have the room here. But one idea I fell in love with was Harbors! his name was Tyrant or something. Lots of great ideas... just a lot actually.

Thoughts and suggestions to make this better?

I really like this idea. But I see the problem in how does this train would look and move on the colony map? Rimworld is quite specific in this case. Even industrial rollers mod look a little clumsy when the rollers go. So I'm thinking the train would look also a bit clumsy. It can't work like in Factorio due to engine differences.

Names are for the Weak

It's good, though I think stone roads and railroads should be more expensive. Maybe 1000 stone and 1000 steel, respectively?

Now these railroads should be a little more expensive.
100 steel per map tile is a cheap cost to basically half the time it takes to travel, I mean look at it like this.
Their doing the actual rail-building, all your doing is giving them stuff to build it with. They might want compensation.
150 steel per map tile + 200 silver

This makes it so they have to invest to make better profits faster.
