so after following the forums here for a bit(as well as the steam forums) its become pretty clear that the modding scene for this is pretty nuts half the time I see somebody wanting something in the game or having a gripe and there told "hey there's a mod for that"

so what's your favourite mods?.

crazyroosterman

ill start this off by listing a few I can think of at the top of my head.

1 combat extended adds ammo(although I think the loading bench needs rebalancing) and makes colonists even more squishy mong a bazillion other things.

2 realistic darkness isn't a mod I see get talked about very often but what it does is make lights far more valuable than they are in vanilla (since you the player need them to see ANYTHING that's happening at night) and it does some incredible things to the weather visually.

3 increased forest density predator edition makes forests significantly more like an actual forest while upping the amount of predators spawned I cant play forest biomes without this mod since the mod makes it so that settling in a forest gives you actual obstacles rather than just being kind of easy.

4 ohh also mars v3 it hasn't been updated to a17 yet but the makers hard at work and when he's done what he wants to do it'll be a thing of beauty.

there's a bunch of smaller little mods I have that do little tweaks here and there but this post would be stupidly long if I did so im going relent.
also I haven't really had much of an opportunity to play with psychology and rimsenal but if I decide I like them enough ill edit them onto my bullet points.

EPOE: a nice mod which expand bionics. Like lowtec (wood foot, steel arm, gold eye) and high tech protestics (ne backbone)
Later you can build them by your own which comes at a price.

Medieval Times:
Extendet tribals start, where you have medieval equitment. More lamps, more food, more enemys. Great mod!

SurrealSadi

a lot of people have already mentioned most of the mods I use. But instead of Vegetable Garden, I use Telkir's "T's Expanded Crops", which just gives Tomatoes, Carrots and Lettuce, and a few new recipes.

Basically, any Skullywag mod is golden.

Jecrell's Call of Cthulhu modset is ridiculously fun, and adding in just pieces of it is great, even if you don't add in the Cults and the Cosmic Horrors. The additional factions, the industrial era goodies, the spiders, they all add interesting things to the game.

Lots of those mods sound very interesting BUT... I don't like modding early-access games, for several reasons.  I generally save the modding for the release version (or the final version, if it's eventually dropped :P).  Yeah, I know, I'm weird.  I'm still just a bit envious, though  ;D.
Thanks, belgord!

that's fine by then some of the mods currently existing might end up being in the vanilla game if tyrann likes the ideas in them enough and what isn't will likely have been improved seven fold by their makers.
and then there'll likely be new juicy mods as well.

I'm sure; I'm totally for modding games and often do.  But I generally like to judge unfinished games only by their "vanilla" experience, or my...um...mental "palate" becomes cluttered with other flavors, so to speak.  The main exception is games that never will be completed by the dev(s), such as "Stardrive" (an incomplete but nevertheless brilliant game, saved by community mods).  This gives me, in my opinion, the clearest picture of what the dev team was actually trying to do, for good or ill ;D.

Like I said, I'm weird.
Thanks, belgord!

For RW I occasionally use Prepare Carefully and I can't get along without AllowTool.

Same here for the most part, I stick to mods that don't muddle the balance or core game.

I like how they saw the naked guy with no food and said, "what he needs is an SMG."
