Alcohol withdrawal is much worse than missing a leg

Move speed is the same, it can't be treated via peg leg (or repaired entirely via bionic), and it takes several seasons to fully recover.

When the guy goes berserk because of alcohol withdrawal, you're delighted to kite him safely around the map, or down him with one punch.

But it takes a toll on their productivity, had a godlike crafter with two bionic arms, walled him in with cloth and a hand-tailoring bench. He made a total of three dusters during his rehab...

Alcohol withdrawal goes away naturally without further negative consequences.

Legs don't grow back.

Legs don't grow back.
In this game, they grow back even better for about 2000 silver.

The cost of that bionic leg is much less than what an otherwise healthy worker pawn can produce during the withdrawal period, were they not suffering from alcohol withdrawal.

2k silver is a lot easier to obtain than a leg though. The first requires a bit of effort, the latter requires luck/time. Our experiences might differ, but the waiting list for bionics in my colony is long.

I agree that Alcohol Withdrawal is terrible, but it's a temporary affliction. Peg-leggedness sometimes takes longer to 'cure' then the withdrawal symptoms.

But withdraval feels so hopeless in this game. Like, there's nothing you can do to make it better. You might luck out with bionics or extra silver. It's even a learning opportunity for your surgeon. Plus, few jobs require very good movement. Mostly hunting, hauling, taming, social, to a degree farm work (but not if he's limited to sowing).

I think alcohol addiciton is one of those cases where I let them be addicted, if you make a custom drug schedule and stretch the time til the next fix, he shouldnt build up resistance afaik.
I tried it for the hard drugs, sadly doesnt work with those, even with custom schedules they eventually build up resistance and get kidney or brain damage.

i just love how your colonist is called sober, but he is a drunk.

You know what .. it is true.

Addiction, Withdrawel and Psychic ailments feel worse.
Failure of the mind is always harder to overcome than failure of the body.

A sound mind can compensate for nearly all bodily ailments.
The body has a similiar effect on the mind but only to a lesser extent.

So yes .. overcoming an addiction is worse than losing a leg .. the chemical and psychical imbalance created through the addiction will always follow you around. The leg can be replaced. Especially in Rimworld.

For reference, here's the wikipedia page on the topic of Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_withdrawal_syndrome

Severe symptoms subside within a week.  In Rimworld they last half a year.

Mind commands body and body listens. Mind commands itself and meets resistance.
