I think with the concept of genetically-modified crops, it'd be interesting to have a crop or two that actually has a fertility sensitivity of greater than 100%, but also probably have a low base grow time to compensate.

They could also need a high growing skill, and a research gate.

This is one of the few things I still don't understand in Rimworld.

how does fertility sensitivity influence the plants ?

It's how much a plant is affected by deviations from standard soil fertility. Take rice and potatoes for example; plants with 100% and 40% fertility sensitivity respectively.

When grown in gravel:
* Rice's growth rate would be 70% (100% - 30% * 1)
* Potato's growth rate would be 88% (100% - 30% * 0.4)

When grown in hydroponics:
* Rice's growth rate would be 230% (100% + 130% * 1)
* Potato's growth rate would be 152% (100% + 130% * 0.4)

Hope that's clarified it a little!

Very much.
As a big fan of the fertile soil mod, and general not very fond of the ice-challenge I never noticed this.

I have to revisit the plants under this new aspect.

The calculation in general would make plants with a deviation greater than 100% very interesting, but maybe to easy in hydroponics and indoor farms. Not considering solar flares.

That said, light sensitivity would be another interesting factor for plants.

In relation to hydroponics I'd be very amused if smokeleaf would need a very stable temperature, like being exactly 34-35°C or else they die, making some plants a must for growing indoors and under close control.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is some kind of fungi which starts growing on fertile ground or hydroponics at 40°C-60°C.

There could also be the mysterious space bean which only grows in complete darkness and needs to be manufactured afterwards in in a workshop, having 200°C room temperature, making the greatest coffee in the galaxy :-)

Problem with smoke leaf is its not that delicate, modern super strains are but it based on hemp which grown in hydroponic set ups ever.  You could grow it pretty much in the world to some lighter success, and we did. Stuff we got is not your premo stuff its the skunkleaf stuff :P

But yeah a fungus would be interesting would remind me of Gnomorea there is a fungus in that you can grow it needs darkness and wet soil. That game has a Z axis though so I just punch holes over the man made cave in a weird pattern doesn't let enough light in to hurt them, but lets the rain make the soil inside just muddy enough I can plant shrooms as another more easy to defend food source as its underground in my base. Could easily do it in side a cave or a roofed out spot in this game with just no lights in the room.

Surprised no one has tried to mode that in, would be difficult to do but interesting to see...

The lack of a z axis seems to be a weak spot in Rimworld, but I think its one of its biggest strength, as it protects the simplicity of the game.

No I meant shrooms I don't care about Z axis a palnt I have to grow in the dark. We got mods that let me pout soil in cave floors but not one to grow an ucky tasting healthy shroom as a food source that needs no light. I mean draw back could be slow growth, and it tastes horrible if uncooked. Making it more of a novelty then an OP new crop...

Actually you are wrong :

Caveworld Flora & Biome

To be fair I am steam owner and I use the workshop never ever heard that mod till now. Thanks for the link, but I never seen a mod like that on the workshop
