I managed to destroy a hive with Gregory swinging his sword at it and the only things left were some Insect Jelly (34 units) and a Megascarab which we all know do not perform the maintenance task. Expected result is that the megascarab will eventually die from starvation so why bother? However, a new hive popped-up now.

It works this way to avoid exploits where you can deliberately destroy walls and collapse roofs on insects. There are so many ways to exploit this so the best solution is to simply always blame the player. So unless we find a better solution it's working as intended. Thanks for reporting anyway.

The last resolution to always blame the player ended-up making Infestations much easier to deal with now because if they spawn in an area full of deadfall traps (which is a usual spot for any player who dug a double tile corridor in preparation for opening an Ancient Shrine), they will eventually spring one and rush outside to the open. Making them more vulnerable than before and much easier for the player as we now do NOT need to enter any cave that would involve a fight in close quarters... but now we are instead fighting in the "open", considerably reducing player danger of losing characters. Insectoids won't be packed together but scattered across the map, making it even much easier to pot shot them one by one.

Unfortunately I don't have a solution suggestion and it sucks for me that I give you a problem without an answer, sorry for that.
