Devmode Speed '4'

So I just discovered to my delight that there is a '4' speed when in devmode, to speed up those endless boring nights and also daytime research sessions.  But why isn't this in the standard game?  Being able to speed up the dull bits is a huge bonus.  But I don't like sitting in devmode for fear I might accidentally click something that will make the game unnecessarily easier.
If you give an annoying colonist a parka before banishing him to the ice sheet you'll only get a -3 penalty instead of -5.

And don't forget that the pirates chasing a refugee are often better recruits than the refugee is.

Not much to click accidentally here. I always play with devmode on because of speed 4. Yeah, strange that it isn't accesible without it.

There's a mod or two that add it to the normal game without dev mode. It's a life saver, really.

It certainly is a great feature... which leaves me surprised that it's not an official feature.

How do you use Speed 4? I've never noticed this.
Should I feel bad that nearly half my posts are in the off topic section?

In Dev mode, just hit '4,' and the game will chirp along in dev fast mode. IIRC, from code reviews, there are a few oddities that happen to the game when it runs at this rate; nothing you will likely notice, but I think these oddities are why that it's not part of the base game. I can't remember the caveats, but there is some strangeness, I think.

Well, I wouldn't recommend trying to run combat in speed 4.  I bet the bullets don't get to their destination nearly in time.

About the only thing you will do on accident with dev mode is turn on god mode. It is a button at the top right and I sometime hit it while trying to click on one of the pawns icons.
