Alpha 4 - CPU/Memory slow down?

I've encountered this three times now.  I've noticed it only happens when it's raining and there is a raider attack.

The game slows down to a crawl.  So slow I can't play.  I've restarted the game and it's the same.   To fix it, I have to reload to an earlier point before it's either raining or before raiders attack.

I have plenty of memory available (12 gb) and a decent processor and I haven't experienced it before.  In fact, prior to Alpha 4, this was one of the smoothest running games I've played without a hitch as far as I can remember.  No force closes.  Nothing.

I let it play through, and as soon as it stopped raining the game went back to normal.  The raiders were still attacking but the slow down ceased.

Also, I notice raiders are attacking in waves.  Three or four at a time, while the rest of the raiders stand at attention until the three or four are dead.

Hi,
I'm only guessing what your issue could be but,
This might help if you have an Nvidia Graphics Card.

Go to NVIDIA Control Panel to switch between graphics card manually.
1). NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings.
2). Click on Add and locate your Rimworld.exe
3). In the Preferred Graphics Processor choose Nvidia Processor instead of whatever else.
4). Click Apply and Start Rimworld again and see if that fixes the issue.

I have AMD.  I'll see if I can locate something similar.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)

These are my settings.

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there fire on the map when this occurs?

What is your CPU/Graphics card?

Are you running on Great quality or normal?

What resolution?

Is this a new issue with A4? Did A3 work ok?

Moving this topic to Support.

Could you take another screen shot with Application Settings selected and also one with Rimworld460Win.exe tab selected, maybe then I could help cause I've never had an AMD.

This is the only option it allows me.  I think this is the application settings.  Nothing happens when I click on either Application Settings or Rimworld.

Ok, well maybe try this just to check if you do have two graphics or not.

Right click on Computer > Properties > Device Manager.
Expand the triangle that says Display adapters.

Take a screenshot and lets see from there.

I'm somewhat interested to see why this is happening.
I'm running a 4GB RAM, x86 windows 7 and only encounter these issues when I have a significant amount of raiders, (30+) aswell as a larger base. onscreen.

Did anyone figure why this was happening or a work around that works for sure? I tried to do the Nividia fix above, but don't have the option switch my Preferred Graphics Processor for some reason. I just updated the driver to the newest ones too and that seemed to help a little but not much.

I have fixed a performance problem that appeared when many fires were on the map.

Rain isn't the issue. It uses exactly same code as fog, but nobody has an issue with that. The problem is almost certainly the fire; the rain is just associated with it because the storyteller tends to rain on big fires.

Makes sense. Hopefully that will fix the issue. Didn't have these issues in Alpha 3 so sucks to see them in 4. Love the game man, easily one of my favorites now. Love how we come up strategies to defend ourselves and your all like nope next alpha negates that strategy! You are doing a great job, keep it up!
