New Use for Corpses

Got a pile of corpses? Need stuff done? The solution is here!

Convert the mostly dead bodies of your recently departed enemies (and allies) into horrible cyborg automatons. Here's how I envision them working:

You take a recently deceased person, and bring them to your surgery table. Implant them with advanced cybernetics that turn them into a single function (one skill) automatons. They will mindlessly perform their one task, whatever it is, with great efficiency, stopping only to periodically return to a drone maintenance bay to recharge and refill their nutrient paste dispensers.

The drones will have a negative impact on the psyche of colonists who spend time around them, especially if the drones were created from the bodies of friends / other colonists. This impact might diminish over time as colonists get more used to them. (I picture one challenge of their use being to design their workspaces such that colonists get minimum exposure to the drones while maximizing the amount of work they can get done. One way to aid this might be to be able to flag a door as impassible to drones to give players better control over where they can go.)

This would require research and/or the acquisition of advanced technology from traders or ruins as well as the construction of specialized facilities.

Other fun ideas might be making combat drones bad at friend/foe recognition making them more like a psychotic creature when activated (a combat mode on/off toggle could be available when a colonist is at a control station or similar letting you switch them from harmless warriors in waiting to crazed killing machines that obliterate anything that moves. They would make a great last line of defense, specialized trap, etc.)

Thoughts anyone?

This should be implemented

K.LINE

Great idea, would love to see it in a mod at least.

StormProxy

This sounds great, you should ask someone to do that for you.

Coenmcj

I can see it now... never expanding past the initial 3 colonists, instead those 3 colonists sit in a tiny utopian bunker with every one of their pleasures served on a whim.... By an army of killer cyborgs.

Interesting idea,

they should be able to go berserk (short circuiting in the rain and have a RARE chance of going psychotic ( and attacking  the meatbags, aka humans)
So dwarf fortress in space eh?
I love it.
I love it so much.
Please keep it that way.

Hey Guys, Here is the first succession Game of rim world for your reading Pleasure, it is in progress right now

I like this idea, And it seems somewhat unbalanced. I think you should have to research 2-3 things to get it working (so you don't have work bots after the first raid) Also, there should be a success rate depending on where the raider came(Pirates higher, Tribals lower?) from and how old the body is(Fresh body=high success rate) And if the operation fails the body is ruined. Perhaps this could be added as a mod, But it sounds difficult.
I remember the days of giving prisoners peg legs, and then removing them to immobilize them.

SSS

So... when the drone dies, what do you do with that corpse? :P

It is an interesting idea, though.

dazhat

I love this idea. I think we would need from proof doors to stop them terrifying colonists though.

Maybe they would need periodic maintenance to limit the number a colony could effectively keep.

Morrigi

My God, this needs to be a thing. I think the morale penalty should diminish over time though, but there should always be a small penalty. You may get used to seeing those abominations, but that wouldn't stop them from being creepy.

Oh, and if we have these, we should be able to make ordinary, non-spooky androids or other robots.

Pulaskimask

Why not let your own colonists be able to be modified into cyborgs? Heck you could make an extensive damage system with the colonists where they could lose a leg and earlier on you just give them a wooden peg leg but towards the end you can make robotic legs. Then the cybermen could be added as a faction and they could try and turn your own colonists into cybermen :P
