Grass Disappeared

I was playing on classic on day 25-30. Without a event log or anything, all the tall grass on the map disappeared except for a few that were in my green house before the event occurred. is this a common occurrence? All i know is it lagged the game pretty bad, I am on one of the 2 large maps.
