Newby needs explanation: haul psychic shock lance?

More specifically, when you find artifacts as part of ancient danger, how do you get the artifacts out of the danger room and into your colonists' hands so that they can be used in some meaningful way?

1.- Make sure the inside has no hostiles.
2.- Create stockpile zone.
3.- Select a pawn that is assigned to "haul" in the work tab and double click on the artifact to select haul.

The artefacts can't be used like weapon's. So you don't need to fear to activate them by accident while your pawn's carry them around.
So you just need to have a stockpile with item/artifact is selected.

More generally, if you right-click any item (or pawn) with one of your pawns already selected, you will see a context menu pop up with all available actions for that item/pawn that your pawn can take at the time (e.g. work on a specific project, rescue a downed pawn, take an item to storage, etc.).   Note:  If the action isn't possible due to job allocations, your pawn's condition, zone limitations, or what-have-you, the context menu will tell you so.  Additionally, this menu's options change drastically when you draft a pawn, but still it operates in the same overall manner.
