Colonist wandering zones

One problem which i have been having is that when my colonists have nothing to do, they go idle then wander off to some remote location on the map and end up getting jumped by pirate raids or starving/getting hungry then leaving the colony. I was thinking that one way that this problem of colonists wandering off to remote locations would be to restrict colonist wandering to home zones so that you don't have your colonists going to remote locations. Thanks!

I think it'd be better if they stay only in the home zone, unless ordered to do something.

Really? I haven't been having that problem so much? I don't know maybe my colonists don't idle for so long but they seem to stick around the nutrient paste dispenser most of the time for me

SlimeCrusher

Really? Nutrient paste dispenser? Do people still use it? lol
But really, i don't know what is wrong with your colonists, mine stay near the base, although most of the time they're working on the smallest thing they find, cleaning, plant cutting and building random stuff

I think this happen mostly with useless Nobles who can't/don't do anything so they easily become idle. I have been actively avoiding starting with one, and when I mistakenly capture one I sell (or eat) him soon enough. Haven't had this problem since! :D

Kill two birds with one stone: Set up watch posts and sentry zones, where they can idle and still be useful by engaging any hostiles on sight in the designated areas.

Just have the zones only in use when a settler has no other jobs to do. The only people who don't (even if idle) would be those incapable of violence. Those hippies can wander around everywhere, smelling flowers or whatever. :P

Little-known gem. You can set tables to be meeting points, and idle colonists will chill around them. Unless I broke this of course.

Do you have to do anything to set a table to be meeting points or all tables are automatically set?

You can toggle it. I think it defaults to on.

I never knew this. Maybe could be added as a tutor info?
