I was playing Rimworld and saw how useless prisoners are until they join and I thought...

What if there was a 4x4 square guard tower where the warden/ wardens could guard around the community and the prisoners could work on the fields/ do construction. There's always the opportunity for them to run away which is the chance you take. Imagine right clicking something "Make prisoners do it" or "Only prisoners do it". The guard towers near the field would make sure the prisoners who run away there's a chance you could chase them down and dependent on the prisoners mood they're more or less likey to run (Working through a heat wave in the fields).

Just a thought, let me know what you think and if we could build on the idea!

there's a mod for that and as far as i can tell it doesnt seem like it will be added
other than that you can use your prisoners for all kinds of shenanigans without having to recruit them:
- harvest their organs, install peg legs and dentures and let them go. at some point they will come back as weak and almost crippled enemies to attack you again. -> easy pickings
- prepare their social tab with tons of friendly chats (for marriage or when they are badly predisposed towards many pawns)
- beat them up and doctor them together again for medical skill increase
- sell them
- give them luci and let them go in hopes of them returning with more luci
- crypto kill them
- use your main trader to friendly chat the shit out of all of your prisoners to increase his trading skill

Haven't thought about that actually. I always store tons of luciferium and then start using it later, so I rarely have problems with it in the first place. I know about such things like releasing enemies with wooden legs to kill them later with ease, but your tactic is just new for me.  :D

Released prisoners come back in future raids? Didn't know that! Probably because I only take in prisoners I want to recruit...still, that's pretty cool.

nice I didn't know these, time to make some cripples!

I was also thinking of something just like what op is saying, it could be an option under the prisoner tab called 'slave labor' that makes prisoners useable for tasks and you can assign their jobs, but it carries a risk of both negative thoughts for your colonists (depending on traits) as well as potential 'slave riots' which is basically a prison break except the former slaves attempt to mutilate and kill their masters. They could have different types of breaks too idk

would be nice to have a area tool for them so they could have there own rooms work shop etc food dispenser and your warden/s could make them work in the day they mite work slower then normal people but with a skilled warden they could make non skilled labor force like making stone blocks to bricks or turning your plants into drugs doing basic work  :D
