There needs to be servers where people can challenge eachother and play with people and they're colonist will start at the 4 corners of the map or something and the players can team up or have a war and attack eachother so you could play with your friends and it could be really fun!

I have some ideas for a multiplayer, even though I doubt it will ever happen:

Players can chose to share their colony with their friends or publicly. From there you will act like a Faction on the faction overview. You can ally with other players or become enemies. If you are allies, your colonists will go to their colony and attack and vice versa.

Multiplayer is not so easy to implemet. Passed the code thing for synchronisation etc, there are rules to be respected :
- Mods used by clients must be the same and multiplayer compatible
- Storyteller differences can unbalance the game, so I guess, the two or more clients should be exactly the same
- The players have already a list of factions and relations with them. Helping a friend fighting against a faction we have not met would make this faction appear in the faction list of the helper, as enemies. Imagine how many enemies a player would have in the end ?
- Helping another player would create real dramas. Really. Your friend is at endgame state, attacked by mechanoids. You have begun your colony and send 5 guys with pistols... That means that a complete system of threat level should be set up.
- Multiplayer would also push the game on a more social aspects, increasing the weight of things like trade with visitors etc.
- Finaly, what if I'm afk to prepare dinner ? In multiplayer there is no pause. If a player attacks me, it's game over. That means that colonists should have the ability to engage in battle automaticaly. We are not at this point yet.

But it would be awesome. The DF approach of the game with the ability to share this virtual world with other players owning communities is nice.
"What do you mean, "*They* cut the power ?"

Just you all wait. In only a matter of months someone will release an (albeit buggy) multiplayer mod. I guarantee it.
On the right path, but the wrong medication.

I like how there's a thing that displays how long you've logged in to the forums. It shows just how many hours you've spent here, never to get back...

This soundsl like the first step towards interacting with players.

I personally think that it should just be multiplayer trading and nothing else. If full multiplayer were to be introduced, a lot of players would be angry against eachother and the forums would fill up with: OMG this guy is way too overpowered BAN HIM! threads.
You see this tank?

This tank is the epitome of "I'm going to destroy you"

This tank can make Chuck norris cry.

All hail the Takemikazuchi.

rather than having a multiplayer game which takes place over a large period of time, would it not make sense to have hourlyish games similar to age of empires and other strategical games by which the objective is to take out your opponents whilst starting on the 4 corners of the map... for early game defence a turret could be given to each landing party, and there could be a automated multiplayer system that would generate players into games rather than importing files from each difficulty... just a suggestion -.-
